I received my Bachelor of Arts in English from Bridgewater College and Secondary Education Teaching Licensure for English from Longwood University. Since graduation, I have taught in the traditional classroom for both the private and public school systems for English 7, 10, 11, and 12 both remedial and honor classes. I have focused training certification on Reading and Writing. I am a certified English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor and deliver web-based lessons to students ranging from beginner to advanced proficiencies. I have been a National Field Trainer in the Insurance Industry for the adult learner.

Hello my name is Katarina. I am currently in medical school, however as an undergraduate, I majored in Mathematics and this is the subject area I really enjoy teaching. I have been tutoring kids on and off for the past several years. I really enjoy watching kids learn new things and improve their skills and confidence.

I graduated from the University of New Haven with a dual BS in premedical biology and forensic biology with a minor in chemistry. While I was there, I worked as a teaching assistant for the chemistry department; I prepared solutions and answered an ocean of questions about laboratory technique and chemistry in general. I love math and science in general, but my favorite subjects to teach out of the whole bunch are biology (middle school through MCAT biology and college microbiology) and physics. Math and science are among the most daunting subjects for many students, but they're the most intuitive subjects at their core. Using a show-don't-tell approach to tutoring, I guide my students and give them the tools they need to discover first-hand the intuitiveness of these subjects. My hobbies include reading, slacklining (do a quick Google search, it's pretty awesome), bicycling, running, playing video games, and powerhousing entire tv series on Netflix.

I received my self-designed Bachelor of Arts in Play, Performance, and the Creative Process with a focus on theater, music, and philosophy. Since graduation, I have set up camp in Brooklyn, NY where I pursue my creative interests as well as work part time as a stagehand and as a tutor. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, literature, and writing. I have the most fun working with students on their writing because I feel that even the most academic paper is still an opportunity to be creative if even in a small sense. In this way, I get a sense of who my students are as people through their writing. My tutoring approach is playful, yet patient and even-handed. I try my best to create an atmosphere where students are uninhibited and unafraid to take a risk or be wrong because so much of school and life is about learning from mistakes and being ashamed bears no fruit this regard. Personally, I like to spend my free time playing my guitar, cooking, watching TV, or playing the occasional video game.

My interest in educating students dates back to my years in high school, when all I wanted to do is work with my peers in assisting them with their studies. Throughout my high school career, I was involved in multiple opportunities that allowed for me to foster my skills as I was part of the Drama club, School Leadership committee, Music Scholars as well as an graduate of the Inroads Business Program. It seemed only logical that I pursue a career in education, as my background was so eclectic.When I began my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to be exposed to the full range of education courses, all of which tended to reinforce and solidify my intense interest in teaching. I've also had the opportunity to study a number of subjects in the social sciences and they have been both enjoyable and enlightening, providing me with a new and different perspective on the world in which we live.In the realm of education, I have plethora of experiences. My career began by receiving my BA in education. I taught Elementary Education with my focus in early literacy, comprehension and fluency. A few years later, I began my Masters in Counseling. I worked successfully as an elementary counselor until I received my Ed. Specialist in Leadership and Superintendency. I have been in a leadership role for 9 years. Four of the nine years were at the High School Level, which was a tremendously great experience. Of course, my plans to enter a doctoral program are near.I have developed a special interest in the field of education and school leadership and have even been tasked with taking on a building of over 700 students and 70 staff this coming school year. I have been effective at building solid student, teacher and parent relationships. I have met the challenge of holding teachers accountable for their students learning in turn being a part of student growth and success. I can identify, teach, and coach the Common Core standards for elementary students as well as transfer my knowledge of effective research based strategies to meet the college and career standards.

I am a Sophomore at the University of Maryland in College Park pursuing a degree in Business Management. As a college student, I am able to see that learning is something that we do every day, inside and outside of the classroom.
