I have taken some other courses in undergraduate Biblical Studies, MBA with HR, and graduate theology. I have 5 years of student advising from Grand Canyon University where I trained students in online college writing essays and prep for APA/ Turabian format styles. I have worked through ages from 18-50s of students that want to continue and advance themselves in their college education. I have worked with many students including special needs children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Oppositional Defiance Disorder and some emotionally disturbed children. I have experience in the medical microbiology lab at the Hawaii Department of Health and a virology research lab at University of Hawaii at Manoa. I love Microbiology and Spanish! I have been studying Spanish language and linguistics for the past ten years, and combined with my Hispanic background I have been able to successfully complete a competitive interpreter training course at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I have a bachelor's degree in German as a foreign language and also worked at the University in Tubingen where I supported foreign students. I especially have enjoyed teaching our before and after school classes because I get to work one-on-one with the students. Although I enjoy teaching a variety of subjects, Reading is my passion! My teaching style is enthusiastic, loving, and engaging! I believe that each individual learner is different, therefore, it is crucial to use a variety of teaching strategies with students. I believe that using hands on manipulatives, comparing material being taught to real-life situations, and students having the ability to explain their thinking are key elements to learning. I moved here from San Francisco, CA. to pursue Clinical Laboratory Science here in Phoenix, AZ.I have tutored since I was in high school. I began coaching chess in various elementary schools in the area. During the summer I coach students to enter into competitive math competitions and prepare middle school students for the SATs. I entered a program for No Child Left Behind and mentored at-risk students in various grades, mostly focused in a high school setting. My main focus is to build on independent learning and mentor students to become proactive members of the community. I founded a nonprofit organization in college called SeriousFun and that laid the foundation to be positive and active members in the community. I believe strongly that any student of mine can be a leader and become accountable, optimistic, and confident.
