Elementary School English Tutor • +10 Subjects
I have been teaching students from the ages of 3-65 for the last 20+ years. I graduated from Desert Baptist Bible College in Arizona. My favorite subject is English - for all ages. I LOVE grammar and writing. I have been told I have a knack for helping students understand grammar and writing and for making it fun to learn and use. One of my passions is developing a hunger in a non-reader to learn about a topic, thus, leading the student to grow a desire to read more. I also enjoy elementary science and history.

10th Grade Math Tutor • +31 Subjects
I first began tutoring unofficially during my high school years, as many family and friends needed help with math, and I was one of the older kids in the group. I enjoyed helping them learn new concepts, and different ways to think about problems in order to get them to understand them better and succeed in their classes. Sometime during my college years I signed up with a tutoring company in which I was able to tutor online, which gave me more experience in dealing with different kinds of people that needed my help. Thanks to these experiences I believed I am well suited to teaching various levels of math to different customers.Outside of tutoring I still attend school. I am currently a masters student at ASU, and am usually around the campus doing school work or just hanging out with friends. When I have free time I enjoy playing basketball, going to the movies, and playing video games from time to time.I believe that as a tutor, I will be able to help you understand a concept, no matter how long it takes. Sometimes it just takes a little time a different method of thinking to get a point across, but in time the problem can be solved easily and with confidence.

I have always appreciated the written word - whether writing a research paper, diagramming a sentence, journaling, reading a teen novella, or analyzing Shakespeare. There is much to be learned and offered from it. Initial enjoyment turned into serious study, and I earned my Bachelor and Master degrees and became a secondary English teacher.I have had much experience in the educational arena and have worked with varying age groups, skill levels, and course work. I have instructed from the middle school level to the collegiate level. Aside from my formal teaching and tutoring, I have also had the opportunity to be a mother and teach my own children.I have a passion for both literature and writing and enjoy sharing that with others. I desire to help others enhance their learning abilities and educational experience.

I recently graduated from ASU with a Master of Counseling in mental health. I also have ASU undergrad degrees in psychology and English with a minor in family and human development from the Barrett Honors College.I have served as the Prison Education Awareness Club (PEAC) president for three consecutive years, bringing prestigious speakers to the university, forging relationships with the Arizona Department of Corrections, and inspiring education in one of the bleakest settings.Additionally, I interned as student Editor-In-Chief for Superstition Review, an online literary magazine. By engaging with the literary community, I worked as a public speaker, online social media brander, and publication editor. My family and human development minor allowed me to learn more about education as applied to different age groups, and I have experience working with children, adolescents, college students, and adults.I believe in a growth mindset philosophy where each person can continue to grow and learn--nothing is fixed in talent. By engaging in creative and conversational methods, I motivate students to grasp the concepts, learn to love writing, and feel confident in their abilities. When I was a youth volunteer soccer coach, I mentored children in a low-income setting and teaches soccer, nutrition and health. Taking on the mentor role, I live out my own philosophy at home and in school, practicing self-care and enjoying time to drink coffee, read, and do pilates and yoga.
