I am in the midst of the medical school admissions process, but hopefully, it will conclude soon. I have a comprehensive understanding of subjects ranging from the social sciences to math. As a tutor, I want to instill confidence into my students. I want them to not only material itself, but I also want my students to find the best learning methods to be successful in their academic work and beyond.

I am more passionate about the latter, and within the humanities I am most passionate about philosophy and English. The most important thing I've learned from those two fields (and the thing I'd most want to pass on to students) is how to find the right words for thoughts - this is important, not just because it allows people to express themselves well to others, but also because it affords clarity to people regarding their own opinions and ideas. Shortly after I graduated from college I embarked on an extended trip around Europe lasting from October 2017 to May 2018. My interests include traveling, piano, and reading.

I am currently in the process of applying to Law School. I have tutored middle school and high school students in subjects ranging from 5th grade reading to geometry to the SAT. While I am happy and able to tutor a number of subjects, I am most passionate about Test Prep because these scores are very important to students, and I enjoy helping them to conquer the test and succeed. My teaching philosophy can be described as a coaching style in which, like athletics, I believe learning the subject matter, good techniques, and constant practice are the best ways to achieving better scores.

I am especially committed to supporting first-generation college students, those for whom English is a second language, and working adults as they navigate the challenges of higher ed. Nevertheless, I have taught and mentored graduate students at Harvard and talented undergrads in a variety of disciplines and welcome helping with theses. In addition to teaching, I have a background in publishing and editing, and have been a writer since childhood. Language creates reality, and interpreting and using it well opens many doors. I delight to see students realize their capacities and expand their universe.

I am a graduate of Harvard University. I received a dual Bachelor of Arts in Astrophysics and Earth & Planetary Science. After completing my undergraduate degree, I worked full-time as a post-baccalaureate researcher at Columbia University's Astrophysics Laboratory in New York City. Currently, I'm working toward a PhD in Exploration Systems Design at Arizona State University. I first starting tutoring in high school and have continued for nearly a decade since. I have tutored many students across all levels of mathematics from the elementary to the undergraduate level. Additionally, I have tutored several students in astronomy at the undergraduate level. Calculus is my favorite topic to tutor, as I find the concepts to be incredibly fun to both learn and teach. In addition to tutoring, I also worked as a multivariable calculus teaching assistant for the Harvard Mathematics Department. I firmly believe that anyone can learn math. There's no such things as a "math person." It's just a matter of finding the right teacher. Outside of my academic pursuits, I also enjoy flying single-engine airplanes, writing screenplays, playing a relaxing game of golf, and training in martial arts.

I am always in the search for knowledge; I love learning new things and I love sharing that which I have learned. I believe there is power in the ability to speak a second or even a third language, and in the same way that I would like to learn more languages I believe it is only fair to help others learn them as well.

I am an Arizona native. Upon graduating from Desert Mountain High School, I attended Rice University and I received my Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology with a business focus. At Rice I was a student/athlete representing the Division I Owls in track and field. After several years experience voluntarily tutoring friends and family members I became a professional private tutor my junior year of college. My senior year, I took advantage of the opportunity to reach more students, creating a small private tutoring company in Houston in which I served as lead tutor and conducted all business operations. After graduating from college, I moved back to Arizona and am excited to have the opportunity to continue my passion of helping young men and women achieve academic excellence through tutoring. I have experience tutoring elementary through college-aged students in all academic disciplines. My primary areas of focus include: math, English, and standardized test prep. In my spare time I enjoy exercising, following sports, and spending time with friends and family.

I am a great tutor because I am young and enthusiastic. I can relate to the kids I tutor because I recently experienced the classes and standardized tests that they are taking. I use an informal style so that the student can feel comfortable asking questions. I try to connect personally to the students so that they have fun and look forward to tutoring. I tutor standardized tests and most high school classes. I have two years of experience tutoring and I spent both this summer and last summer teaching full-time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Buckeye's 42 schools and all 6 school districts with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends a school in the Buckeye Valley Unified District, Avondale Elementary, Litchfield Elementary, or any other local district, we can match them with a tutor who understands their school's curriculum and academic expectations.

With an average student-teacher ratio of 20.6:1 in Buckeye schools, many students benefit from personalized 1-on-1 instruction to fill gaps and accelerate learning. A tutor can provide the individualized attention and customized pacing that's difficult in larger classroom settings, helping your student master concepts more deeply and build confidence in their abilities.

Tutors work with students on Arizona's specific standards and benchmarks across math, English language arts, science, and social studies. They're familiar with what Arizona assessments expect and can help students develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills emphasized in state standards, whether your student is preparing for end-of-year assessments or building foundational skills.

During the first session, the tutor will assess your student's current understanding, learning style, and specific challenges in their subject area. They'll discuss your goals—whether that's improving a grade, preparing for a test, or building long-term skills—and create a personalized plan tailored to your student's needs and Buckeye's curriculum requirements.

Students in Buckeye typically seek tutoring in math (especially algebra and geometry), English language arts (reading comprehension and writing), science, and test preparation for standardized assessments. We also support students in Spanish, history, and other subjects—tutors can help with any academic area where your student needs extra support.

Absolutely. Personalized tutoring is especially effective for students who are struggling because a tutor can identify exactly where learning gaps started and address them at the right pace. Rather than moving forward with incomplete understanding, your student gets targeted help to catch up, build confidence, and stay on track with their grade-level curriculum.

Yes, tutoring isn't just for students who are struggling—many advanced students in Buckeye use tutors to deepen their understanding, prepare for advanced placement courses, or explore topics beyond their regular classroom. A tutor can provide enrichment, challenge your student appropriately, and help them prepare for competitive academic opportunities.

Simply tell us about your student's needs, grade level, and goals. Varsity Tutors will match them with a tutor who's a good fit, and you can schedule your first session at a time that works for your family. Most families see their student connect with a tutor within a few days of reaching out.
