"The student and I first reviewed last session's concepts. We discussed which areas he would like to focus on for our next meeting. This lesson focused on vocabulary in context. I shared a resource with him and asked him to pull information regarding strategies to use on vocab questions. We created a list of strategies and clarified which approaches work best. Then, we used those skills with a few practice problems. He performed very well! In particular, he used his prior knowledge, understanding of word roots, prefixes, and suffixes, as well as passage context, to determine the meaning of words. Our next session will focus on questions relating to two passages and graphs/ charts."

"The student and I covered the remaining topics from the advanced math section: functions. We went over various examples of how to solve composite functions and backsolve for parent functions. We also looked at different ways that we can alternate between expressing function relationships through graphs, tables, and algebraic expressions. This was pretty hard to learn, which is to be expected since this last lesson was the hardest out of all the SAT math lessons. She seemed optimistic still. We'll be going over her work this Saturday."

The student is very quick to relearn the concepts, considering how many we covered. She will need to do additional practice on all of these outside of tutoring sessions, so that we can move on to new topics each time. I will be sending her additional problems via email to finish before we meet next Monday."
