College Level American History Tutor • +25 Subjects

I have a PhD in English Language and Literature by the University of Barcelona, a BA in Drama by the University Politcnica of Barcelona and a BA in History by the University A utnoma of Barcelona. I hve taught English, French and Spanish in different language schools such as Assimil in Barcelona ad the Oxford School of English in London, where I was teaching one on one classes. For 8 years I was a tenured track professor of ESL at the University Autnoma of Barcelona. I have taught English, American, Spanish and World Literature at the University de las A, Americas in Mexico and Theatre Arts (Voice, Speech, Acting, Scene Analysis, and others at the University Autonoma of Puebla in Mexico and at the United World College in USA. I have given workshops for important institutions such as Instituto Cervantes of Chicago, and many others. I have tutored people on all my subjects, and have helped student actors to create shows from scratch. My teaching philosophy is very "Socratic", in the sense that I do not think that knowledge is a commodity passed from teacher to student but rather the ability of the teacher to act a s a facilitator of the self-questioning of the student and vice-versa, for indeed the questions the student comes up with resonate and develop further questions for him-herself and the teacher that helps him-her discover his-her learning process about diverse subjects. This learning process should ideally take place in the body, emotions, mind and spirit of the learners (both teacher and student).Teaching is an interaction where generosity and truthfulness are the key factors for both participants if the experience has to be worth the effort. The personal knowledge and experience the teacher has about the subjects/issues she wants to share and communicate must enable her to resort to a flexibility of criteria that will serve the diverse needs of the students. Rather than deciding on which method is "best", she will realize - like an actor on stage, that does not use a "method" but rather works from all that she has learned - that teaching is a "live performance" that needs to be lived in the present.I have taught for many years, and continue to enjoy teaching diverse subjects to all kinds of people, from different ages, social and cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, ethnic origins, and abilities and disabilities. I enjoy it deeply, because I believe that teaching is a commitment to working for and with diverse communities and individuals and learning from them on a basis of mutual respect.

I am a senior at Loyola University Chicago, majoring in international studies and minoring in Chinese and English. I will be graduating this spring and plan to return to China next fall, where I recently spent a semester abroad studying Mandarin intensively. I have a passion for learning languages, and have also studied Spanish and German for several years. In the past I have tutored Chinese students looking to improve their conversational English skills as well as American elementary school students in basic reading and reading comprehension skills. My favorite subject to tutor is reading and writing because I am passionate about sharing the rich heritage and nuances of my native tongue with others. Outside of languages, I enjoy traveling, reading, swimming, dancing and attending plays or concerts. I believe that the key driver of academic success is genuine interest in the subject. As a tutor, my foremost aim is to find new and creative ways to provoke curiosity and excitement in the student, because after all, learning must first and foremost be fun!!

I recently graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and a Spanish minor in Spring of 2022. I plan to attend graduate school to study immunology in a few years, but for now I'm focused on getting more research (and life) experience.I came onto the teaching scene in a bit of an unconventional way. Throughout high school, I was involved in an organization called The Faraday Society (named in honor of scientist Michael Faraday). We performed awesome chemistry demonstrations for a variety of audiences, from elementary school kids to the general public. While we enjoyed using silly skits to engage with the audience, our primary goal was always to foster enthusiasm toward science. This gave me unexpected training in how to tailor an explanation to the audience receiving the information, while also keeping their attention and helping them have fun (okay, okay... the fiery explosions might've helped a bit).During my undergraduate studies, I worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant (UTA) for the Undergraduate Biology Lab Department, teaching introductory biology labs as well as biology labs for non-biology majors. From the perspective of student and teacher, it seems that having an instructor who is enthusiastic about the material and fosters their students' curiosity can make all the difference.

I am a firm believer in education and enjoy sharing this appreciation with others. I am accustomed to working with people from many different backgrounds and eagerly modify my teaching to meet the need of each individual. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the cinema, singing, acting, reading and learning languages.
