I'm Emma! I'm a rising senior Classics major at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. I study Latin, Ancient Greek, and the histories associated with the two languages. Outside of class, I'm an RA, and I spend 6-8 hours a week tutoring and teaching college access courses in a nearby high school. In the future, I hope to teach high school Latin! I am extremely passionate about academics and learning; the value of each was inculcated into me at a very young age. I tutor a variety of subjects largely because I have so many areas of interests and have been privileged enough to pursue knowledge in those areas. I even enjoy tucking away "useless facts"...in fact, those very tidbits got me past the Jeopardy! Online Test and into the Contestant Audition!

I am a 23-year-old Columbia graduate with a real passion for teaching. I have been a tutor in both professional and volunteer capacities for nearly 10 years and have taught students ranging in age from second and third grade through college. I have classroom teaching experience as well and can adapt to both group and individual settings. I have taught students of all abilities in a wide variety of subjects. There is no confusion too small or problem too complicated that I cannot help with if not solve. I am exceptionally dedicated to my students; ensuring that they not simply memorize concepts or regurgitate facts but truly understand the material. I ask them to defend their answers which teaches them that the correct response is often less important than the reasoning used to reach said response. I honestly believe that anyone can learn anything given enough time and patience. I try my best to not only be a teacher but also a role model to my students and to interact with them as people not just clients. Most importantly, I believe that being challenging, but also patient and supportive yields the best results. I'm a PhD at Harvard studying German philosophy and classics (Greek and Latin). Next year, I will be starting law school to pursue my professional passion, tax law. I am deeply committed to the language and LSAT skills I've developed and I love to tutor students of all levels in these subjects. I can't imagine a life without teaching. My favorite part of teaching is helping students come to love -- or at least appreciate -- the details that make up complex subject matters. My favorite moment with any student is when the student realizes how fascinating a subject matter is after really mastering all of the "dry" details. When my students start internalizing the LSAT or languages I am teaching them, I know I am doing my job.

I am a high school English teacher, currently working primarily with 10th grade students. I have previously worked at middle and elementary schools as well. I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2016 with a B.A. in English and Theatre. I then got my M.S.Ed from Northwestern. I have worked with children of all ages in various capacities, including teaching, and I find that the best way for students to learn is to have fun and engage them. I attend the University of Houston majoring in Biomedical Engineering. Every exam taken at UH was administered through the CASA facilities; for every test there were CASA Tutoring Sessions where I volunteered for every exam in all my classes and absolutely love it! Although I did help students that were in my science classes (BIO and CHEM), I would say my strongest subject is Mathematics, particularly Calculus. I have taken Calculus - Calculus 3 and will be continuing my Math enrichment with Differential Equations this fall semester. There's no bigger pleasure than seeing a pupil exceed in a subject he or she is struggling with. And it would be my pleasure to fully dedicate my time to anybody needing help with Mathematics and Foreign Languages. I have kept all my Calculus notes, workbooks, and textbooks, as well as many French and Spanish vocabulary workbooks ready to open and study! Please feel free to ask absolutely anything. I am looking forward to teaching everybody who is ready to learn!

I have always been a highly ambitious student and strive to learn in everything I do. In high school I became enthralled with my ACT exams, embracing the challenge and being reinvigorated with each improvement I could make; over the course of a year, I self-studied from a 21 to a 34 and even had fun doing it! With that score I was able to attend Columbia University where I received two BAs: one in Archaeology and the other in Classics with a focus on Latin. In each step of my educational journey, I have been interested in accessibility and have been passionate about spreading information as widely as I can. I am now pursuing an MA at Columbia's Teacher's College in Anthropology and Education, specializing in the experiences of Neurodivergent learners.

I am a graduate of the University of Washington, where I received Bachelor of Arts degrees in music theory and in classical languages (Latin and Greek). I obtained my teaching credentials for secondary mathematics at Western Washington University. Recently I earned my TEFL at the International TEFL Academy in Barcelona. I have worked with a wide variety of students, including elementary and high school, college and adults. I have led large classes of over 30 people, small groups and individuals. I have helped students learn and improve in a variety of subjects, mathematics, language, physics, music and more. I love to travel, experience new cultures and learn new languages. Currently I am learning about the culture of the Czech Republic and their language.
