With a B.A. in French from Rosemont College, an M.A. in elementary education from Villanova, and further studies over the years in music, Latin, and art from such varied places as University of Florida, Oxford, and the Louvre in Paris, I can attest to the value of education as a foundation for a rich, satisfying life. My 35 years of teaching experience, ranging from pre-school through grade 12, from reading and art to voice lessons, French, and Latin, have provided me with many happy hours helping young people discover the joys of learning about our interesting and exciting world. My most satisfying moments, I feel, come while working one-on-one, helping students discover and build on their personal strengths in order to acquire reading, writing, and other language skills, whether in English, French, or Latin. To me, few things are more fulfilling than watching a little one decode and understand those first simple stories, or catching the flash of surprise as a student suddenly realizes how to use the various cases of a Latin noun.In my free time, I love traveling, reading (especially mysteries!), solving various sorts of puzzles, music, and various crafts.

I recently graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in Comparative Literature, as well as a secondary field in Gender Studies and a language citation in Arabic. In the fall, I will be a Host Advisor the Tufts' Global Orientation, a pre-orientation program for incoming freshmen.In high school, I worked with elementary school students and tutored them in English and Reading. I was also the head of my school's Debate and 21st Century Forum Clubs. 21st Century Forum is a club that facilitates weekly discussions on social justice and diversity-related issues.At Tufts, I am a part of the Debate club and also a part of Generation Citizen, which is a non-profit organization that works with college students and places them at local middle and high schools. I taught action civics at a local high school and mentored and guided students with identifying problems that they saw in their local communities and with creating a project that tackled the issue of their choice. As a part of Generation Citizen and through teaching my class, I have been able to sharpen my teaching and interpersonal skills.My favorite subject to tutor in is essay writing. I really enjoy tutoring in essay writing because I enjoy reading the variety of and diverse ideas that students have when they write their essays. I'm excited about tutoring in essay writing because I love seeing students gain more confidence and have more fun with their writing. I, myself, initially struggled with my writing skills throughout my time in high school. However, as I have improved my own writing skills and have better learned to write stronger and more persuasive essays, I have also had more interest and more confidence when I'm writing. I want to help students gain not only more confidence with their writing so that they can better identify the issues that they see in their writing and also gain more independence and ownership over what they write, but also more fun and desire to experiment with writing, writing styles, personal expression, and persuasive arguments. Writing skills are always important and I want to help students with bolstering these skills that will be necessary for them in and out of the classroom.I also attended a private school and have experience with practicing for and taking the ISEE, so I am also happy to tutor in that subject as well. I have also taken the SAT and would also be willing to tutor in SAT preparation as well.

Dylan currently attends Columbia University in the City of New York, and is pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Psychology with concentrations in Business Management and Classics. He grew up just north of Seattle after spending the first two years of his life in Washington, D.C., and plans to split his time between New York and Seattle in upcoming summers. Dylan discovered his passion for mentoring on the lacrosse field in high school while helping to run summer youth lacrosse camps, and became involved in academic tutoring through his high school soon after. He believes that common foundations of learning exist across many disciplines, and values a specific and flexible approach to any topic to best apply those ideas and ensure individual enjoyment and success for every student.
