Session Summaries by English Grammar and Syntax Tutors

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Carla in Maywood, IL
The student is making progress with her sight words. Please continue to review where, two, and yellow. Today we focused on using her sight words in sentences. She also reviewed long e vs. short e in words. She learned the -est word blend in the words nest, best, and fest. She is also learning that -essed is pronounced the same way (blessed, pressed). The 'd' in these words is actually a 't' sound. She has a new story to practice. I will also begin to pick up the pace with the student's sight words and stories. I will start challenging her more because I know she is capable. Keep up the hard work!

The student is making slow progress and sometimes remembers what we go over and sometimes she does not. There seems to be a processing issue or an issue with retention, but I will continue to present the material in different ways until something clicks with her and makes it stick. We will continue to work on this next session.

The student is mostly needing help with accent reduction. I left him with more practice pieces to master the cadence and intonation of English. We went over some grammar, specifically modals and he did some practice exercises. We reviewed mouth movements and tongue placement when enunciating sounds in English for clarity of speech. We engaged in a shared dialogue script, to master the nuances related to the English language.

The student is motivated to increase her ability to speak English conversationally in everyday situations. She has a good ear for English and a foundation of vocabulary and grammatical structure. We conversed about her background and interests. She likes using the language app on her phone. I will help her to use some websites. This way, she can continue on with her studies independently between sessions.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Greg in Maywood, IL
The student is off school for the summer, but we are still meeting to tutor reading. We are making progress! When she is focused she is a quick study and remembers the words we have been over. There are a few consistent words she will get stuck on, but when she concentrates, she gets it. I'm trying a number of word exercises to keep her interested across the hour. It will also be very important that she continues to read during any spare time she has. In the next few sessions, we'll focus solely on connecting words to to assure the grounding remains solid for her in taking the next steps.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Erin in Maywood, IL
The student is on a great track with her critical analysis of the articles per the assignment. It was a matter of organizing and streamlining the many thoughts and ideas to fit a pretty strict word count. We rearranged and clarified some of her better points, and when she's ironed out the piece in more of her own voice per our discussion, I'll take a final look, edit, rearrange some more, and send it back her way. So far, so good. Great work on her part and I think this will turn out quite well in the end. It seems to be primarily about confidence and getting back into the rhythm of writing in an academic setting.
