I'm a very curious individual. I studied Political Science and Foreign languages at Ruhr Universitaet in Bochum, Germany. There I spent 4 years teaching students both French and German. Then I went to Concordia University to study Finance and graduated with a MBA. My engineering mindset titillates me to get a Master of Science in Software Engineering from the University of St Thomas. I have worked in Finance, mostly in Investment both retail and institutional, during which I have consistently taught French, English and German on the side. My passion has always been languages. I speak six different languages. Now, I work as an IT Consultant for 3M.

I'm New York City born and raised. I graduated from the University of Chicago last year with a degree in East Asian Languages and Civilizations. I am developing my own teaching methods to evolve traditional East Asian and French language acquisition, and to do this I need even more experience. My course of study has been directed at learning as much as I can about the culture, economy, and history of East Asia, China and Japan in particular. I view myself as someone who is entrepreneurial, collegial, individually motivated to produce high quality work, as well as foster a love of the subject which I teach. I am compassionate and enjoy working with both children and adults. I believe I have something to learn from everyone I meet.

I have a PhD (Yale) in history and an MBA (UCLA) in finance. I have excellent writing and research skills, and have made extensive use of German and French -- spoken and for research. My work in finance has required skills with mathematics. I have taught university classes in finance and international economics. Another area of much interest, related to my background in history and public policy, is US constitutional law. I published a book on monetary history (*Gold, France, and the Great Depression*) , and a more recent book of essays on topics in economics and diplomatic history (http://books.ksplibrary.org/978-625-7501-75-0/ ) .... I have worked extensively on government-related projects, often in the greater Middle East. Effective tutoring should do more than impart techniques -- it should certainly do that -- it should help a student come away with some interest in and enthusiasm for the topic. (Soft evidence for the last is that my daughter earned a PhD in neuro-science, and credits me with inspiring her.)

I'm an attorney, Ph.D. student, and aspiring law professor. I am working on my dissertation for my Ph.D. in Law at Yale, having previously earned my J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. I practiced for three years at a large law firm in Washington, D.C., primarily representing television stations. I also speak German, having learned it as a high school exchange student, majored in it in college, and having spent a summer working in a Berlin law office. As much as I love the law--and I really do!--I also love teaching. I recently spent a semester teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Law at a law school; that experience confirmed for me that teaching is what I was meant to do. I have had numerous other teaching and tutoring experiences, including working for my university's tutoring service as an undergraduate student and later working for my law school as a tutor.

Update: I completed a two-month full-time guest teacher assignment teaching World Languages Spanish to high school students (9th-12th) Spanish 1/2/3. By utilizing a student-centered learning approach, cultural competence, and equitable teaching, I support students with pedagogy rooted in inquiry, hypothesis, information gathering, problem-solving, and action. I encourage all students to adopt an open-minded approach, and provide support to gifted students, students with disabilities, English Language Learners, and Multilanguage Learners with equity. James Baldwin I am in my second year of grad school, pursuing a dual master's degree in K-8 Elementary Education and K-12 Special Education (Mild to Moderate Disabilities). With my education grad studies and BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), I synthesize creativity and best practices in education to find creative ways of supporting learners. My pursuit and purpose is to guide with compassion and enthusiasm. I encourage students to take ownership of their learning. By promoting student agency, students empower themselves to achieve in academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. As an ADHD adult, I enjoy working with ADHD students and adults experiencing anxiety + depression. What is effortful for our neurodivergent brains is also our superpower! In my career, I have lived and worked in NYC as an editorial photographer, actor, and dancer. I lived in Berlin and pursued performance art + music while honing my communications skills in digital art + copywriting in Marketing. In Los Angeles, I succeeded as a commercial and theatrical actor. My skill set is suited for collaboration with all students to support and develop their passion for learning, exploration, and critical thinking. I live in southeastern Washington State and teach in northeastern Oregon and southeastern Washington State public school districts. Without these new vistas can never be reached, doors will remain closed and people will shun new possibilities. Therefore, in striving to be the best you can be, you can open yourself up to the possibility of who you will be. Belief in oneself inspires the passion to consider the self as a means of your own transformation. Therefore, when striving to follow my passion for mathematics, the arts or the sciences, I use a multifaceted approach to learning. Whether more traditional or more progressive, I can lecture and lead or simply allow for your learning to unfold via engaging conversation with the material. When you can bring your enthusiasm, interest and love of the subject material, then teaching you how to hone these skills into a career or passion project you may be working on will be a door wide open. Language learning and teaching has always been a great passion for me. I speak 7 languages, and I have been teaching languages for many years. I began teaching Italian in 2010 and German in 2016. It's hard to tell which language I enjoy teaching more, as these are my two favourite languages, and I am equally happy when I can help other people to become proficient in either of them. Besides my degrees and certificates in German and Italian, I also have a PhD in Applied Linguistics. My past education and ongoing research help me to better understand learners' needs and to use the most appropriate teaching methods based on each learner, considering their learning styles, age, personal strengths and difficulties, as well as their linguistic background. Having knowledge of several languages usually allows me to draw parallels between the target language and students' native language(s), which has beneficial effects on learners' metalinguistic awareness, especially when it comes to adult learners.
