We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Printmaking Tutoring FAQ

Printmaking is one of the oldest and best known forms of fine art. During such a course, you may find that you need a variety of skills and knowledge in order to succeed. You will need to develop an understanding of the technical aspects and cultural complexities of printmaking. You may need to analyze famed works throughout history or write essays on the various techniques associated with these works. You may find these challenging if your teacher glosses over some topics that are confusing for you and slowly works through other concepts that you have a firm grasp on.

After reviewing the extra practice problems I gave the student last week and discussing her Saturday session with the substitute tutor, she and I finished the remaining problems on the practice test. We then went back and looked at a few troublesome points of the recent work, as well as reviewing the skills from Saturday's session once more. She has made an appointment to take her placement test this afternoon; another session tomorrow may be scheduled pending the results of today's test. In my opinion, though, she is ready.

We went through her math homework and answered questions she found confusing, and talked about division; we talked about vocab in context and reading different types of sentences, using the book she's reading for fun.

We started by reviewing multiplication tables-- doing timed multiplication tests and mental multiplications; this was in order to increase fluency and to practice quickly using multiplication. I had noticed last semester that she often made small mistakes in multiplying when doing more complex operations. We then returned to multiplying and dividing fractions, using the quick mental multiplications to increase speed and accuracy. Finally, I assisted her with the math section of her homework; reviewing the key skills of subtracting and adding like terms (x's with x's and numbers with numbers) and dividing variables by themselves.

The student and I went over practice questions from both the science and English portions of the ACT exam. Her reading comprehension is excellent, and though she'll need to brush up on some scientific concepts and logic, she does well with the science material, too.

The student obtained a new book with more practice HSPT tests for this session.  Together, I overviewed the test again, to prepare him, and we practiced the reading comprehension more.  We also reviewed his vocabulary flash cards, where he showed significant improvement!  He agreed to take the practice test before our Wednesday session.

The student completed 2 homework assignments in Geometry which were both practicing the calculations of circumference, diameter or radius using equations. He seemed to have a good grasp of this concept.  We had 30 minutes remaining in which I reviewed concept of the dipole of a polar covalent molecule, understanding how Lewis dot shows molecular structure and a quick introduction to naming covalent molecules.  The student seemed to recall this information from his Chemistry class last semester.
