I am an elementary education graduate from Marquette University. I have been an elementary teacher for nine years. Over those nine years, I have taught reading, math, science and social studies. I have also learned to adapt lessons for students that have learning disabilities or may learn in a less conventional manner. My greatest goal as a teacher and tutor, is to foster a love of learning within my students and empower them to seek out and demand a fulfilling and well rounded education for themselves. After seminary, I have been working as a campus minister, most recently at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. There I was a Teaching Assistant for two years. I love to connect subjects to the real world and popular culture to help students more fully understand their homework.

I am a recent graduate from Franklin and Marshall College with a major in Economics and a minor in Math. I have been tutoring for the last five years and have taught several subjects including Math (Algebra, Trigonometry, SAT, and SAT Subject Tests), Physics (High school and SAT Subject Tests), SAT Writing, and Economics (High school and AP level).I am extremely passionate about teaching and have taught students of several age groups (12 through 19). Throughout the course of of my college and graduate school career, I mastered several skills such as public speaking, presentations, writing and grammar, as well as reading comprehension. In addition, during my time with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, I worked with Youth in the Underage drinking prevention programs, volunteering with major events and organizing events for them to fundraise, and participate in MADD events.

I have over a year of formal experience tutoring elementary, middle school, high school, and undergraduate students in mathematics. I am a fourth-year undergraduate with a double major in Mathematics(BS) and Economics(BA) at Muskingum Uinversity and I am working toward a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) certification.All students learn differently, so sometimes I may focus on practical problems, basic concepts, introduce advanced concepts, or focus on proofs. I am not afraid to use play-doh, if necessary. Generally, I will:1) Diagnose problem areas.2) If the student is not up to speed, I will focus on those problem areas until they are caught up.3) If the student is up to speed, I will focus on logically progressing through concepts to ensure understanding.4) I will mention peripheral and advanced concepts to spark or maintain interest.5) I will give the student the minimal tools (s)he needs so (s)he can lead me to the solutions.Mathematics is a variety of complex concepts built on simpler concepts, which makes closing gaps in understanding paramount to overall success.

Since the age of 16, I've worked with children starting out as a mother's helper to working as a waitress at Friendly's. At a young age, I always knew I wanted to become a teacher. I have worked in positions as a substitute teacher and special educator while I pursued my studies leading up to a Master's degree in Elementary Education. I regularly tutor my niece, who is currently in third grade, with her reading comprehension skills. I enjoy working one on one and watching children progress in their studies. It boosts their confidence and gives themselves a sense of pride.

Four years ago, I moved across the country to pursue my passion, the academic field of history. I attended UNC-Chapel Hill where I was able to complete a master's thesis in Latin American history and gain valuable experience teaching undergraduate courses as diverse as Latin America since Independence, the Social History of Pop Music in the United States, and World History since 1945. I began with no teaching experience, but my love of the field is what motivated me to connect with my students every week, helping them understand how the past relates to the present, the historical context of world events, and how to develop their skills in writing and analysis.Now that I have returned to my home state of Arizona, I would like to continue connecting with students through education, particularly in history, writing, and language.
