I'm a Ph.D. candidate in French Studies at UCLA finishing my dissertation about contemporary French literature. My main research specializations are French language and literature. However, I also have a certification in critical theory and conduct research in cultural studies and music history. I have taught first- and second-year French classes at UCLA for four years, and before that, I taught first-year French for 3 years at the University of Kansas. I'm a PhD at Harvard studying German philosophy and classics (Greek and Latin). Next year, I will be starting law school to pursue my professional passion, tax law. I am deeply committed to the language and LSAT skills I've developed and I love to tutor students of all levels in these subjects. I can't imagine a life without teaching. My favorite part of teaching is helping students come to love -- or at least appreciate -- the details that make up complex subject matters. My favorite moment with any student is when the student realizes how fascinating a subject matter is after really mastering all of the "dry" details. When my students start internalizing the LSAT or languages I am teaching them, I know I am doing my job.

I am working on my dissertation for my Ph.D. in Law at Yale, having previously earned my J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. I practiced for three years at a large law firm in Washington, D.C., primarily representing television stations. I also speak German, having learned it as a high school exchange student, majored in it in college, and having spent a summer working in a Berlin law office. As much as I love the law--and I really do!--I also love teaching. I recently spent a semester teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Law at a law school; that experience confirmed for me that teaching is what I was meant to do. I have had numerous other teaching and tutoring experiences, including working for my university's tutoring service as an undergraduate student and later working for my law school as a tutor.

I am a senior in the honors college at the University of Georgia, where I have a full tuition Zell Miller Scholarship, as well as a National Merit Scholarship and a Woodruff Scholarship. I am majoring in psychology and mathematics with a minor in German. In addition to my studies, I am active in the Psi Chi International Psychology Honor Society and a German language social program, and am heavily involved in social psychology research. Additionally I have received several awards for my performance in my math classes at UGA.

I have a PhD (Yale) in history and an MBA (UCLA) in finance. I have excellent writing and research skills, and have made extensive use of German and French -- spoken and for research. My work in finance has required skills with mathematics. I have taught university classes in finance and international economics. Another area of much interest, related to my background in history and public policy, is US constitutional law. I have worked extensively on government-related projects, often in the greater Middle East. Effective tutoring should do more than impart techniques -- it should certainly do that -- it should help a student come away with some interest in and enthusiasm for the topic. They are currently getting their PhD in French. They have also been trained as a writing tutor in English, French and Spanish. Elsie grew up in France, and continued to learn languages in immersion programs, study abroad semesters, and fascinating courses through graduate school. They have worked with multilingual students in elementary schools, immersion academies, tutoring programs, and in university courses. They also speak German, a little bit of Italian, and has an ever-growing "languages to learn" list.
