"A teacher is like an atlas that carries the whole world on his shoulders"I have always had aspirations to delve into the intricacies of language and culture from an early age; I therefore pursued literature and teaching to broaden my knowledge of the peripheral issues. As I had grown up in Germany for many years in my early childhood, before moving back to Tehran, the constant comparison of the two cultures and their effect in linguistics, teaching and translation fascinated me immensely. I love working and communicating with people, so I decided to start my career as a Teacher.Over the course of fourteen years as a German Teacher, my approach to student education has shifted from an emphasis on my teaching to a more central focus on student learning. Every classroom presents a unique community of learners that varies not only in ability, but also in learning styles. My role as a Teacher is to give students the tools with which to cultivate their own gardens of knowledge. To accomplish this goal, I teach according to the needs of each student so that all learners can feel capable and successful.Effective learning requires collaboration between the teacher and students in mutual respect and trust. In my opinion, learning takes place best in a positive environment filled with laughter. It is my desire as an Instructor to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is lively and invites a sharing of ideas. A teacher should be kind and full of excitement, patient with students, lively with a high level of knowledge and enthusiasm.A teacher is an individual who carries the world on their shoulders and is not just a teacher, but also someone who takes most of the responsibility and plays the role model of the students. One should demonstrate leadership ability with a pleasant and encouraging attitude in a good classroom atmosphere. The most efficient instructors should be adept in their topic and be well prepared with the material. They should take students seriously and they are required to think critically. Teachers should know about the study habits and interests of their students and should adjust their teaching to them.Characteristics I have that contribute to my teaching ability are me being lively, fun, firm, hardworking, explaining almost everything in an easy way, being reliable, responsible, able to deal with different problems, enthusiastic, being able to motivate students and making them work hard, being creative, dedicated, passionate, and confident. My past experience has helped me to always organize a syllabus, follow it strictly, and manage classroom time effectively. In an American classroom with international students, I usually give input in an enjoyable way to students, so they will have fun while acquiring a second language. I communicate as much as possible, by doing communicative tasks and activities, which help them, learn the language easily without getting bored. In this way I make use of different game-like activities. But, before that I always review the previous session at the beginning of the class. While introducing new information, I try to incorporate students' lives to make it as real as possible to get their full attention. In this way, I often make use of visual aids, which makes the examples more clear.I also let students talk about themselves, so I get to know them. I ask students to make presentations using their own basic knowledge of German. For instance, I have prompted the students to create Power Point presentations that introduce their family members to the class. They were told to use their knowledge of German to describe their family members. This gives them the opportunity to increase their depth of knowledge while improving their presentation and critical thinking skills.Through learning German the students gain a new cultural perspective along with learning the new language. They discover the inherent cultural significance behind German speaking societies. This helps them to accept the other culture's differences without forsaking their own identity. Also grading within a week plays an important role in a teacher-student relationship. It shows that the students' tasks are important and that the teacher cares.Towards the end of the class, I take time to show them German music or lighthearted anecdotes originating from German culture. It is pivotal to form a rapport between the students and myself. I find that retaining a semi-formal atmosphere in the classroom bolsters an ideal working environment.Taking all of these factors into consideration, I must compile an efficient work schedule to facilitate the most productivity. I will always strive to be the best educator that I can be. My passion for teaching and knowledge displays itself through my students.I will continue to look for opportunities to create new courses, and update my current courses by incorporating innovative teaching techniques and presenting students the most up-to-date learning methods while acquiring a second language.

ACT English Tutor • +48 Subjects

Howdy! I am a current student of Ohio University. I am working towards a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on literature, especially concerning the English Reformation. In addition, I have already received a certificate in East Asian Studies and am pursuing minors in History and World Religions. While in college, I tend to prioritize my schoolwork above all, but in 2018 I was able to spend 6 weeks working as a writing lab tutor for Ohio University's OPIE (Ohio Program of Intensive English) program. During those 6 weeks I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with several different undergraduate ESL/ELL students and offer guidance on all parts of the academic writing process, such as: brainstorming topics, outlining and organization, proofreading for grammar and spelling errors or inconsistencies, polishing and finalization, etc. In addition, I tailored my feedback to each student according to their personality as well as their individual English level. Outside of tutoring ESL/ELL students, during my high school years I also volunteered with a team of two other students to teach German to first graders at our local elementary school. We not only created our own lesson plans for each class, but also prepared all of our own teaching materials and managed to keep the first graders' attention for full 30-minutes.If you cannot yet tell, my favorite subjects to tutor are languages. This includes learning a foreign language, but I also offer tutoring on English literature and composition at the college level and below. This also includes American literature at all levels, as well as Reading, Reading Comprehension and Writing at all levels. In addition, I am also certified through Varsity Tutors to offer tutoring on Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Basic Computer Literacy, U.S. History, AP U.S. Government & Politics, AP English Literature and Composition, AP German Language and Culture, ACT Writing, as well as non-AP levels of German and Mandarin Chinese. Thanks to my varied experience, I feel comfortable working with students of all ages and have no preference regarding a students' level of education. That is to say, everyone is welcome! I truly believe that access to education is the deciding factor in predicting a person's potential to achieve stability and happiness in their lives, so I am especially passionate about offering online tutoring to potential students. If you chose me as your online tutor, I hope that we can work together toward a shared goal: making you (or your child) the BEST and BRIGHTEST student of 2020.

AP French Language and Culture Tutor • +25 Subjects

I started teaching in my junior year of high school where I was a part of the Virginia's Teachers for Tomorrow program. With this program, I taught Spanish and French to Middle School students. I was also sort of a teacher's aid when it came to helping students in my mixed AP German class assisting the other students who were taking German I. World languages are my fort and I enjoy helping others to understand them better.Since my teaching revolves around language learning, my teaching philosophy focuses on how to achieve fluency. There are several skills that involve language learning which include speaking, writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary, and listening. Everyone is quick to say that speaking is the most important and the only skill you will need to have. However, I have been in many German, Spanish, and French classes and I always see a pattern. The pattern is that students are able to say any sentence in a language, but have difficulty responding to what a native speaker says. This is why I believe that listening is the most important skill in acquiring fluency. A conversation dies if you are not able to understand what was said to you.

I am a former professor in human, physical, and environmental geographies. I have a background in geology and marine science, communications, as well as a doctorate in geography. I have taught a wide range of subjects including chemistry, physical geography, human geography (and labs), marine geography, environmental science, Caribbean geography, globalization, political ecology, writing for the sciences, writing and research, and communication. I enjoy teaching a variety of subjects and like to discover ways to personalize lessons. My first focus is to build trust and communication with the student, and give them the skills to feel independent and sure of how to succeed in the desired subject area. I tend to apply alternative methods that encourage open communication, and interactive engagement (versus "top down" teaching strategies). I believe strongly in self-assessment and giving the student the ability not only to find their strengths, but also their weaknesses and give them the skills to overcome those challenges through attainable milestones. I have fostered and tutored three nieces into advanced programs and honor rolls in their schools through my method of engaging their skills with real world applications, and showing them how all of these skills are used in our society in various ways. This provides motivation and purpose and takes the subject from one of "a required knowledge" to one that they see as valuable and worth investing their time with. I love the outdoors and used to be a kitesurfing instructor as well.

I am a graduate of Northwestern University, where I completed a BA in Cognitive Science (Neuroscience concentration) as well as a BMus and Masters degree in Voice and Opera Performance. I tutor test prep for the SATs and ACTs, as well as math for all ages. I excel particularly in writing and editing and love tutoring in the humanities. My teaching philosophy is one of guidance rather than direct instruction, helping students to discover answers on their own. I am very patient and understand that sometimes all it takes to understand a difficult concept is to explain it in a few different ways. We all learn differently, so I aim to develop an individualized approach for each student in order to make the most of our time together. While I am not being a tutor, I am a musician. In addition to singing, I play the violin and viola and dabble in everything from Bach to bluegrass to covers of pop songs. As an opera singer, I have studied Spanish, Italian, French and German and am accordingly fascinated by the etymology of words in my own cobbled-together language. I also have a special place in my heart for books about turn-of-the-century magicians and anything Viennese.

Education and learning has been incredibly important to me for my entire life. I have loved school ever since I started it, and I have worked to be successful in my education the whole time. My effort has paid off - I now attend the university I have worked towards, studying something I love.Despite excelling in and enjoying academics, I have chosen an artistic field of study and, eventually, career. This hasn't changed my passion for education, nor has it changed my view that everyone deserves the chance to excel and achieve the level of education they want. I want to help you achieve your academic goals even as I work towards my own.

I am a Boston native and am happy to be back in the city after 4 years in Upstate NY for college and 1 year working in New York City. I am working full time as a Project Manager at a translation company in the Boston, and am really enjoying it so far! I graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, in May 2015 with a BA in International Affairs and a BA with Honors in German, and a minor in Government. I worked as a tutor for all levels of German and for introductory levels of Government throughout my time at Skidmore, and I'm continuing to tutor outside of college because it's something that I love to do! I'm fascinated with the German language and culture, and I love being able to help others learn it with me. I started my fascination in the 7th grade (about 11 years ago!), and have been lucky enough to spend time in Germany to continue my studies- for three weeks in high school, and for 6 months in college. I also know German can be very frustrating to learn. I don't think I actually started enjoying my studies until college, when everything just seemed to click. As a tutor, my goal is to help students get to this moment, and beyond. My love for the German language has also fueled my interest in the English language and in writing. I enjoy helping students organize their thoughts and ideas, streamlining them into a concise and thoughtful statement. It???s a skill to write coherently and powerfully, and it???s something that does not come naturally to many people, so this is something I enjoy practicing with my students. Besides my passion for German and writing, I have always loved to swim and have swam competitively from fifth grade through my four years at college. I also love the outdoors and will take any opportunity to be in the sun or go hiking. If the weather isn't the best, which is often the case in the Northeast, I enjoy sewing, knitting, and other 'do-it-yourself' crafts.

Currently, I am a PhD Candidate working on my dissertation. When I am not writing in an academic capacity, I enjoy creating poetry and short stories, exploring and playing music, and, above all, helping students.I am excited to meet you, and to work with you to enhance your writing and academic abilities.
