CLEP Introduction to Educational Psychology Tutoring FAQ
For almost any education degree in an undergraduate program, a course on educational psychology is a requirement. This course frequently follows the same material that is found in many introductory psychology and education courses, and it can be aggravating if you have already taken those classes. Varsity Tutors is here to help make sure that you receive the score you need by connecting you with a high quality, certified CLEP Introduction to Psychology tutor.
Earning such a score is no easy feat. The test includes questions about childhood development, educational processes, theories of motivation, testing strategies, and individual differences, all presented in a random order of content and difficulty. You need to know the material inside and out, with an ability to instantly recall even obscure details. Because the exam is timed, arming yourself with test-taking strategies also becomes important in preparing to earn the score you need to receive college credit. Preparing for such an exam on your own can be a daunting task, and even if you have done well in previous, similar classes, you may discover that you need a little assistance. Recent CLEP Introduction to Educational Psychology Tutoring Session Notes
In my first session with the parents, we first went through the diagnostic test that he had recently completed. Math is obviously no issue- with some small review he will no doubt get an 800. Writing and Reading were only 20-30 points different, but because he knows he needs some help with vocabulary and most people improve faster in Writing, we will probably need to spend more time on Critical Reading. We talked about various ways for him to study vocabulary- games, flash cards, iPhone apps, online activities, etc. We went through how much time we would meet, how much he should study each week, the differences between the PSAT and SAT, and how he should prepare for each.
The student and I got started by discussing his struggles with the ACT Reading test, then moving on to a review of the content and types of question on the test. After practicing some sample passages, we addressed time-management strategies for the Reading test.
The student and I continued to go over the Language Arts unit lessons. We spent a lot of time on misplaced modifiers, which the student found to be very challenging. However, he was very patient and persistent. He even asked if I could give him more practice questions on that unit next session so that he can really make sure he understands it.
Went over the 1st diagnostic test; covered errors in science and math. Big improvement in math from previous official test (25 -> 29). Focused on planar geometry / trigonometry in math and general approaches to science.
Covered 4 different types of deceptive answers on the ACT and practiced identifying and eliminating those. Practiced test passages. The student appears to be very strong at this. We will move on to science next session.
I have really good feelings about the student, and everything I saw today just affirmed those. If her science section is indicative of her overall performance, she's capable of scoring so much higher. She handled the toughest problems with only minimal difficulty, and got them all right. Her reading comprehension is also impressive. We worked on a passage that I thought would be more difficult for her given her interests and strengths, she got them all right. All in all, I'm really looking forward to seeing how she improves and starts having some fun with the test.
