I attended the University of Northern Colorado for my undergraduate studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Music and Business Administration minor in 2017. I went on to the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester for my graduate studies, receiving a Masters of Music and Arts Leadership Certificate in 2019. I aspire to someday become a full-time bassoonist in an orchestra. For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed pursuing academic excellence and helping others do the same. I firmly believe that my academic pursuits (and the individuals who encouraged me along the way) opened doors in my life and career, and I find great value in helping others do the same. By the time I graduated from high school, I had proofread countless papers for classmates and spent hours tutoring them on various subjects. I set up and led study groups, helped peers work through specific homework questions, looked over drafts of projects, and shared test strategies. As a native French speaker, I tutored younger children at a local French immersion elementary school starting when I was in middle school. In college, my interest in tutoring continued. During the early years of my undergraduate studies, I helped so many of my peers with music theory and history that faculty approached me about becoming the School of Music's official tutor for all undergraduate music academics. I held this position for two years, during which I learned to tutor a varied student body. I received trainings from the university's tutoring center, and as my skills as a tutor increased, so did my appreciation for the work of tutoring. Some of my tutoring students asked to keep working with me even after I graduated and moved across the country.During my graduate studies, I turned my focus to classroom teaching as part of an assistantship. I taught undergraduates about educating others in how to play woodwind instruments, continuing to lead study groups for my peers in academic areas like music history. Starting during my masters and continuing in the year since my graduation, I have pursued freelance editing for college students. Proofreading and content editing papers and dissertations has helped me maintain my writing and English skills, and encouraged me to seek out information about different citation styles. While I now tutor a range of subjects, I am most passionate about music, French, and English. I love the potential for communication and creativity that languages and the arts provide. My tutoring approach focuses on meeting the student where they are as a learner, and helping them grow and gain awareness of their needs and strengths. I am flexible in my explanation of concepts, working with students' individual learning styles. I help students gain confidence in their abilities and foster an atmosphere where they can experiment without fear of reprimand. We focus on the process of learning and increasing self awareness, setting relevant and genuine goals. Ultimately, I strive to teach my students to teach themselves. The more they take ownership of their progress, the more they will get out of tutoring. In my spare time, I enjoy listening to music and podcasts, knitting gifts for my family, and spending time with my cat!

Hello! I am Robert. I recently graduated from Columbia University with a BA in Economics and Slavic Studies. Having gone through the grind of preparing for the SAT and ACT exams, I am well aware of how daunting a challenge this can be. Still, these exams are based on a small set of basic patterns, if you know how to crack them quickly, you will succeed!I have tutored the ACT and SAT for two years for the test-prep companies Top-A International and Hermiona Education. When applying to colleges, I chose to take both exams, scoring a 2300/2400 in the SAT and a 34 on the ACT. My experience taking the exams taught me the importance of developing effective test-taking strategies and knowing your weak spots. Therefore, I develop a unique curriculum for every student, that caters to his or her strengths and weaknesses.I also have 2 years' experience teaching English, where I combine fun activities with an in-depth study of grammar. My students have gone on to study in American Universities and thrive in the US. I speak French, Russian and Spanish, and love helping others crack the secrets to language learning!I am a native Russian speaker, born in Saint Petersburg. I have served as a translator for the United Nations, NYC Board of Elections and private clients. I have a university background in Russian, through which I can assist in grammar practice.Whether it is SAT, English prep or Russian, I am dedicated to helping you master your subject of interest! American Literature Tutor • +17 Subjects
Im Leah! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelors degree in English Writing and a certificate in a cross-cultural applied anthropology program. As a college student, I deeply appreciated the professors who fostered lively discussion of literature, used questions to make me think and write more clearly, and made heady concepts accessible through well-chosen metaphors and stories. These are practices I seek to emulate as a tutor. My English major has trained me to read and write well. I love to tell stories and introduce others to the captivating or thought-provoking books I find. My experience as a peer mentor in college trained me to use questions to help students clarify their understanding of difficult theoretical or philosophical concepts. I value helping students work out the answer for themselves. Im animated in my study tactics, employing charades, word games and silly stories alongside careful summary and review to help concepts stick. As a writer, I read other peoples creative work with an eye both for grammar and story. I look for the driving questions of a piece, highlight the areas of greatest curiosity, and call attention to what is already working well. On the academic side, I help undergrad and grad students edit their papers for grammatical clarity, intellectual focus, and style.Ive worked with children from 3rd-10th grade in a camp setting, and have tutored high school students, college peers and English Language Learners. Ive also spent more than eight years of my life outside the States and am very comfortable in cross-cultural settings.
