I am a graduate of Yale University, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in History. I received two prizes for my senior thesis, and was a Yale Journalism Scholar. At Yale, I worked as a French tutor for two years and served as a Sports Editor at the Yale Daily News. After college, I served for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the West African nation of Guinea-Conakry. There, I taught 5th grade full-time in French to 60 students in a village elementary school and tutored local high school students in English. My time in Guinea cemented my love of working with children and teenagers, and I am currently pursuing a career as a teacher. I tutor a broad range of subjects, but am most passionate about French and History/Social Studies. As a tutor, I don't simply answer questions; I would rather give students the guidance and support to help them find the answers themselves. I look forward to serving as a friend and mentor to my students - I know that they need to feel comfortable to take full advantage of our sessions. I enjoy playing soccer, listening to music, writing and traveling the world.

I received my Diploma from George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania. I am currently working towards my Bachelor's in Psychology and French from Siena College in Loudonville, New York. I am hoping to get a PhD in Social Psychology. I have worked as a Statistics tutor with students at my college. I believe in patience and listening to the students needs when tutoring because they will only succeed if you work with them in the best way that they understand. Outside from tutoring, I am very involved with social activism on my campus and am constantly practicing my skills in public speaking and event planning. I am also going on to my second year as the captain of my college's step team.

It is with great pleasure that I would like to share my knowledge of French aka "la langue de Moliere." I am a native French speaker and have completed the majority of my secondary education in a French school. My passion for foreign languages has led me to obtain a degree in foreign languages (Spanish)and learn two additional languages (Haitian Creole and Cape Verdean Creole). Through my previous work as a tutor and current professional experience as an adjunct faculty, I have realized that I truly enjoy teaching. As someone who had to learn how to speak a new language (English) at the age of 15, I understand the challenges of it; and the rewarding feeling of being able to have an entire conversation in a newly learned language. For this reason, ensuring that my students have the confidence to speak the language is a priority. For my lesson plans, I strive for an appropriate balance of grammatical and vocabulary lessons along with a focus on the practical use of the language. I also believe in using learning strategies that are compatible with the learners own style.

I have a B.A. in English from Vassar College and an M.A. in Literature from NYU. My day job is at a big publishing house, and I really feel like I'm living the dream. Reading has always been a passion of mine, and I absolutely love working with books every day. I have worked as an editor, copywriter, and analyst, so I have a very practical understanding of the real-world benefits of reading and writing well. I love sharing my deep appreciation of literature and language with students. On the side, I am also a certified yoga instructor. I like to think that it keeps me flexible, both mentally and physically.I have experience tutoring students of all skill levels and ranging from 5th grade through college. My fields of expertise include test prep, writing, reading comprehension, French language, and grammar & mechanics. I think that every student benefits from a customized curriculum. Whether it is a problem of comprehension, poor time management, or just a lack of interest, I work with each student's particular challenges to help her/him perform as well as possible.

I've loved learning and sharing knowledge with others as they follow their path. Teaching and tutoring has provided me with opportunities to meet people from all over with different backgrounds. I believe that everyone has a story to tell and something to contribute. And to my surprise, it was teaching, in fact, that taught me more than studying ever could. I hope to be able to share my love of learning with you!I have approximately a decade's worth of study in the French language and French acquisition both domestically and abroad. Along with French, I have significant hours of study in university-level German. I am conversationally fluent in other languages such as: Spanish, Italian, Norwegian, and Mandarin Chinese. In addition to my foreign language study, I am certified to teach English to non-native English speakers (TESOL). Furthermore, I have a wide knowledge of various fields in linguistics such as: Phonetics/Phonology, Syntax, Sociolinguistics, Second Language Acquisition, and Romance Phonetics. As for my future, I am working the Master of Business Administration. With an MBA and my understanding of foreign languages and their respective cultures, I aspire to take part in today's growing global market. Given my desire to be abroad and my experience with other cultures, I look forward to working with others both domestically and internationally.

I'm a graduate from Pomona College, where I majored in Media Studies, and minored in French. I am currently living and working in the Nashville area, but am available to tutor online from anywhere. For two years, I worked behind the scenes in Pomona's admissions office as an application reader, so I know how important the grades, scores, and proper style can be in determining where you'll go to school and who you'll become as an adult; and I also know how much having someone to guide and help you through the process can make a difference. Having been fortunate enough to have dedicated teachers and mentors help me through my own education, I want to do the same for you! Whether it be test prep tricks and tips, working on college essays, formatting resumes, learning to interview well, or just getting academic help in your classes to make sure you get the best grades you can get, I want to help show you how you can be the best you can be!I'm easy to talk to, I have a very nurturing nature, and I'm an expert at rephrasing confusing definitions and ideas in all sorts of subjects. Grammar, literature, writing, basic math, any of the humanities - if something's unclear, I can elucidate it for you 100%! Since I work in college admissions, I'll be a great resource for anyone preparing for college - not only did I go to the #2 college in the country (according to Forbes!), but I also help decide who gets to go there next! I performed excellently on my standardized tests, I've previously taught resume writing and interviewing skills in addition to working behind the scenes in admissions, so I know what schools are looking for and I have the skills to help you get to the right school for you. I also love food, cooking, movies, music, and home-made beauty products, if you want to talk about something other than school for a little while:)In addition to the collaborative academic environment at Pomona involving lots of peer tutoring, I have worked as a Team Advisor for the National Student Leadership conference through which I gained classroom experience teaching dance, theater, interviewing skills, resume writing skills, and leadership skills. When working with students, I like to tailor teaching styles and plans to whatever best suits the individual: I want to make sure you're getting the help you want in a way that's effective for you. I also learned quite a few ice-breakers if it's necessary to use them!I know students are busy and that flexible hours is a great part of individual tutoring, but if I can plan ahead for tutoring sessions, everyone will be better served. I'm happy to meet students at their homes, or in nearby libraries and cafes - any environment that's conducive to the students' learning!I hope these qualifications appeal to you, and I'm excited to meet you all and work with you to figure out how to best structure your lessons and help you reach your learning goals.
