I am a graduate of Chapman University, holding a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. As of 2023 I have completed all requirements for the Master of Science degree in mathematics from Texas Tech University. As a current university instructor and doctoral candidate in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Texas Tech University, and experienced individual tutor in pure and applied mathematics and physics, I strongly prioritize the growth and learning of my students through the development of fundamental understanding. I have taught courses or tutored in a variety of STEM and business/accounting subject areas, including calculus, vector analysis, differential equations with applications to physics, linear algebra, and university-level/high school-level physics, in particular AP Physics. At Texas Tech I taught the full business calculus course sequence numerous times. I have also tutored for the GRE and SAT. I know developing fundamental understanding isn't easy, and more often depends on encouragement rather than discouragement, so I listen to my students as carefully as I teach them, standing out as an instructor they are comfortable sharing their thoughts with. In a typical lesson, I walk through the details of specific problems, resolving key difficulties along the way and "boxing" these insights for timely use. I will derive or explain certain important results or formulas, making them memorable and applicable; even better, reproducible by the student themselves. I especially enjoy tutoring due to the individualized discussions it allows which are not really possible in the conventional classroom. Nothing makes me happier than helping a student take control of an intimidating class or subject area.
