Tutoring review by Madeleine in Burr Ridge, IL
The student has a quiz tomorrow in Algebra, so we spent the session reviewing the sections covered. Her quiz is on linear inequalities, systems of linear inequalities, and least squares line/regression analysis. She has a grasp of the concepts, but occasionally makes errors in calculating or graphing. To remedy this, she just needs to slow down, work on being precise when she graphs, and check her answers. She gets intimidated by problems with several parts or that look difficult, but she is starting to realize she just needs to break the problem into manageable parts. We could not find part of the chapter review in the book her teacher assigned online. We also did not have time to review how to do the regression analysis on her calculator (We went over the concept, just not how to use her calculator today, though, last week I went over with the student how to use her calculator.).

Tutoring review by Travis in Burr Ridge, IL
Today, the student and I had a very productive session! We mainly focused on strategies for solving multi-step plane geometry problems. In addition to reviewing the formulas/procedure for finding area, circumference and perimeter of circles, rectangles, squares and triangles--he was also able to successfully learn how to find the area of trapezoids in today's lesson. Next week, we will focus on finding the volume of cones and pyramids as well as the relationship between line segments and angles.

The student worked on the preterite tense for stem-changing verbs. We reviewed the endings, he did many exercises, took a quiz (he scored 90%), I quizzed him verbally as well. The student understands the subject and we talked about taking the time to read the questions carefully.

Tutoring review by Billy in Burr Ridge, IL
The student and I once again worked on Math, transitioning from mastering new academic techniques to test taking strategies. She adapted well to process of elimination and could be well served by it to gain several extra points in the subject. From there we reviewed Science, trying to mentally prepare for the last hour of the test when she's sure to be exhausted and ready to tap out - but she will not tap out, she will overcome!

Tutoring review by Jennifer in Burr Ridge, IL
The student and I worked through three SAT reading comprehension passages and approximately 40 SAT math questions. She did well on the reading comprehension and is increasingly comfortable with the context of passages and with finding evidence to support particular answer choices. She got the majority of the questions correct independently. The SAT math questions were medium-to-hard, and she was able to set many of these up on her own, although she occasionally needed assistance. Our next meeting is scheduled for Friday.
