I'm a recent graduate with honors from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor's Degree in East Asian Studies and a minor in Philosophy. I spent a semester abroad In Shanghai, China in my junior year, during which I was lucky enough to develop my spoken and written fluency and explore a beautiful and unique part of the world.I have been an academic tutor and chess teacher for over 6 years. I have loved teaching since I was quite young, and aspire to be a professor in the future. In my years as a tutor I've instructed Geometry, Algebra I and II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Chemistry, Creative Writing, the GRE, and most frequently SAT and ACT preparation.I developed a love for tutoring test preparation for two major reasons. First off, I'm a puzzle solver by nature and I genuinely find the tests fun! That sounds bizarre to most people, but I think one of my principal strengths as a tutor is the ability to instill this positive and optimistic attitude in my students as well. A good attitude helps to inspire confidence, which in turn yields tangibly improved test results.Secondly, my college application process was extremely stressful and difficult. I look back on the experience as unnecessarily frustrating and taxing when it should have been exciting. One of my primary missions as a tutor is to not only help prepare my students for their exams, but also to develop a personal relationship as a mentor throughout the college application process to ensure they stay focused, but also happy. In my free time I keep busy with a myriad of hobbies. I'm a 3 time national chess champion, avid poker player, semi-professional gamer, Rubik's cuber, singer and string musician, and stand up comedian. I also enjoy hiking, skiing, ultimate frisbee, and playing tennis. Above all else, though, I'm a gregarious extrovert with wonderful friends and love socializing and meeting new people.I look forward to working with you!

I believe that music plays a strong role in the life of all people. Whether you decide to become a professional musician or someone who just enjoys music it can play such a monumental role in everyone's life. Music can connect people of different backgrounds, bring people together, serve as therapy for some, and even become a career for others. I believe in teaching people how to appreciate and understand music from all over the world.

I currently live in Kansas City, MO. I went to high school in a small southeast Kansas town, but I have always considered Kansas City my home. I originally majored in Atmospheric Sciences. I have always had an obsession with the fascination of weather phenomena. However, I changed my major to Mathematics. I wanted to have a more diverse degree for career opportunities. I will say that I would love to go back and take some weather forecasting classes just for the fun of it. I work full time in the fund accounting business in downtown Kansas City. I love my job! I want to broaden my career into helping those who struggle with math. I believe that with determination and patience, I can make math fun! I look forward to starting this journey.

Math is one of my favorite things! It's truly amazing that humans made this stuff up and that it's endlessly useful for learning more about the universe! This will be my fifth year of teaching high-school level math, and I have been tutoring math since I was in high school myself. After getting my undergraduate degree in mathematics, I obtained a masters degree in math. In my masters degree program, I got to do research that used math to answer questions about immunology (specifically the flu virus)! Afterward, I became a certified secondary math teacher through getting a masters in education. If I end up being your math tutor, I will work with you in whatever way you need. Whether you simply need guidance and assurance while working on your homework or you have significant difficulties in math that have been building up for years, we'll figure out what you need to succeed. I am a firm believer in providing my clients with the tools they need to succeed without me, so I do my best to teach them not just specific algorithms for a given topic, but the overarching skills they will need in order to do their best in any math class. Most importantly, I know that math can be interesting and wonderful and definitely not terrifying. So we will work together to make sure you learn that, too. :)

I've worked at The White House, on Wall Street, and run my own tech start-up for 3 years, and I will help you achieve your goals!I overcame a significant learning disability to graduate high school at 16, publish original scientific research in major international journals, and went on to graduate from Oxford University, the London School of Economics, and Rice University. My original writing has been published in The Guardian and Le Monde, two of the largest newspapers in the United Kingdom and France, respectively.I have 10+ years of experience teaching higher mathematics, computer science, and the SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, SAT II, IB, and AP exams (including SAT Math IIC, AP Calculus, AP Computer Science, AP Biology, AP U.S. and European History, AP Art History, and a wide variety of other fields).I've made perfect or near perfect scores on every standardized test I teach, beginning from when I made perfect scores on SAT I Writing, Verbal, SAT II Math IIC when I was 15.It is not at all uncommon for my students to achieve scores like these, increasing by 10 percentile points or more after only a few lessons. My approach is the opposite of "one-size-fits-all."We will develop a customized syllabus together after your first diagnostic test, and I will be data-driven in pursuit of improving your score until we achieve your goals. Fully over 90% of the students I've taught have gained admission to their top choice schools, graduate school, or one of the most selective universities in the US.Outside of this work, I have also been fortunate to start a tech company, intern for The White House Chief of Staff when President Obama was first elected, and work in medical research, where I've also been fortunate to publish peer-reviewed articles on predicting Diabetes-risk in young children.Let me know how I can help you achieve your ambitions, higher education-related or otherwise. I'm excited to work with you.
