My name is Kelly and I am a previous 4th grade teacher and recent graduate of Columbia University School of Social Work. I graduated from Texas A&M in 2016 with a bachelors degree in Special Education. After college, I was accepted into Teach for America, where I taught 4th grade reading and writing in inner city Houston. Between my Special Education degree and Teach for America, I have worked with kids from a wide range of ages and disabilities. I am certified to teach General Education (EC-6), Special Education (EC-12), and ESL. I have most experience with elementary reading and writing. I am working at Austin Achieve Elementary School in fall and so excited to be back in Texas!

I am a graduate from Ursinus College in Pennsylvania. I received my degrees in Psychology, Spanish, and Neuroscience. I have spent my time since college mentoring, tutoring, and promoting healthy lifestyles for high school students. I have enjoyed helping all age groups learn - from kids, to college students, to adults. I tutor a wide variety of subjects including math, Spanish, ESL, and test prep. I really enjoy tutoring geometry and algebra or SAT prep. My tutoring strengths include finding multiple ways to explain things for my students and giving real value to the learning process so that information can be retained. Outside of the academic world, I love to listen to and make music. I play volleyball, rugby, and soccer in my free time.

I'm an Honors student pursuing my bachelors in Computer Science. I've been programming for years now and have worked multiple summers interning as a programmer. As an Honors student, my academic skills have been tested quite rigorously. I'm fully capable of tutoring Computer Science, Mathematics, and all ACT subjects. I have multiple years as a teacher's aid at Religious School working with young children including special needs students.

Though I hail from north Texas, I attended Principia College, a small liberal arts institution in Illinois. There, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English, with an emphasis in literary studies. As a student and Postgraduate Teaching Intern, I gained a great deal of tutoring experience in writing and literature. I took a rigorous training course to become a tutor for Principia's writing center my junior year, and thereafter served as a peer Writing Tutor, helping students with papers in a variety of subjects, for a year and a half. After graduating, I continued to tutor students writing literature papers as a teaching assistant for the College's English department for a year. Now that I'm back in Texas, running a small student residence near UT, I'm grateful that I get to continue tutoring! I absolutely love working with students and seeing them grow as writers and thinkers. I work from the basis that all my students are capable of successfully completing any task or assignment given to them, and I serve to share tools and strategies that will help them do so, while also showing them much support and compassion. When I'm not working, I'm most likely cycling, reading and writing at the park, or exploring new foods and places around town.

I graduated from Davidson College in 2009 with a degree in English and Spanish Literature. After college I spend five years teaching in Oakland, California where I also earned my Masters in Teaching and Education.I enjoy teaching K-12 reading and writing skills as well as elementary through middle school mathematics. I am a Spanish speaker and enjoy helping others practice their skills. I graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Mexico with a concentration in materials processing and minors in Physics and Mathematics. I started my tutoring career as a supplemental instruction leader at the Santa Fe Community College where I taught students in a Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry course how to study effectively and develop test-taking strategies. Once that appointment ended I was hired as a tutor in subjects ranging from basic math to ordinary differential equations. I also tutored in the following subjects: chemistry, physics, engineering (including AutoCAD), and computer programing. I have put to use my academic knowledge in several internship opportunities allowing me to apply the things I have learned in a real-world setting. I worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory for 2.5 years studying water purification while pursuing my B.S. I was an Air Force Research Lab Fellow at Kirkland Air Force Base where I studied solid Oxide Fuel Cells for space vehicles. I was also funded by NSF to study bio-compatible smart materials in the Biomedical Engineering department at the University of New Mexico. All of these experiences have helped me hone the skills I learned in the classroom and have given me a wider perspective on science, math, and engineering. I am a published author in three different scientific journals. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and passion with students because I believe it is important to understand how the things they are learning are important in the real world.
