The student and I continued working on her marketing plan by discussing promotional strategy for the clinic, and how to promote it to doctors as well as patients. In today's session we continued our conversation on national debt and deficit spending. A deficit is when expenditures exceed receipts, and a surplus is when the inverse is true. In addition we covered the principles of taxation (ability to pay and benefits received) and the three major forms of taxation (proportional tax, progressive tax, and regressive tax). We talked about the concepts in connection to the real world by looking up the federal income tax bracket system - a form of the progressive tax system. We also spent time to cover note taking best practices. The student's notes consist largely of vocabulary words and their definitions. I explained to him how to use section headings and subheadings, as well as figures and graphs, to take more specific and informative notes. We agreed to begin practicing this new method of note taking moving forward.

The student and I had our first session today, and we first discussed her overall goals in terms of making sure she is prepared for upcoming tests. We reviewed the main points of the objectives of Chapter 1, which focused on criminal vs. criminal law, statute interpretation, jurisprudence or the "theory"/"philosophy" of law, etc. With the guidelines in mind, we will be better able to approach the preparation process better and cover more chapters. In addition, her professor suggested the review of sample questions provided by the textbook publisher, so I will be looking these up for her, and we will review them as well.

The student and I reviewed a quiz that she completed in class today. The quiz covered two chapters of her textbook related to fiscal policy and inflation. The student showed a keen interest in the material and has a good understanding of the content. I encouraged the student to slow down when answering the questions and to focus on keywords and phrases. The student had some questions about the gold standard, and we discussed it in some depth. This was a very good session. We will be meeting again on Monday.
