I have a great deal of experience working with children of all ages. I have worked as a babysitter, camp counselor, tutor and teacher. I enjoy tutoring all subjects -I like trying to explain subjects in a new way that makes them interesting for my students. I do my best to make learning as fun and creative as possible, using whatever method works best for the student.

I just graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a Bachelor's in English. Most of my teaching experience comes from helping the children I babysit with their homework, and from teaching my peers how to knit. I tutor English, any grades, with a focus on writing, because that is what my education has prepared me for. I want to help students reach their full potential, and adjust my teaching style to how they learn. I prefer to teach by example; explaining what I am doing, then having the student try and correcting any errors.

AP Studio Art: 2-D Design Tutor • +22 Subjects
Hello! I am a post-doctoral neuroscientist with a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University at Albany in New York and my Bachelor's of Science is in Psychology and Biology from Western Oregon University. I have been mentoring and tutoring high school, undergraduate, and graduate students for over 10 years across a variety of scientific disciplines. I love all areas of biology and use chemistry and math on a daily basis with my job, while I also have a degree emphasis in studio art from my undergraduate institution, which provides me with a broad background of expertise. I also have extensive public speaking experience and have mentored several people in developing/refining this skill. Additionally, I have done considerable work in writing mentorship ranging from college application essays to manuscripts. I have edited all my undergraduate's medical and graduate school essays, and I'm very proud that all of them have been accepted into a program of their choosing.I pride myself on figuring out the unique style of learning that each student has, and then break down the material to enable him/her to enhance academic confidence and success. I encourage communication on both ends and believe that hard work and success on the part of the student should be rewarded in order to further reinforce the new learning behaviors.Outside of science I avidly pursue photography and culinary arts. I love nature and hiking, rafting, kayaking, camping, sports, anything that gets me outside. Now that I'm done with school I hope to re-establish my creative side and refine some of my studio art skills. I am also learning botany this year while planting my own garden for the first time.

I have an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a graduate degree from Boston College. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown with a major in History and a minor in Government. I focused on both U.S. and Middle Eastern history at Georgetown, and was invited to write an Honors thesis for the History department my senior year. After graduating from Georgetown, I began my studies at Boston College where I received a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. I am now a history teacher at a public school in Massachusetts, where I teach U.S. History I and II, as well as Modern U.S. History. Not surprisingly, my favorite subject to teach and to tutor is History. I am most passionate about the history of the U.S. since 1945, but as I am sure most of my students will attest, I truly do find the history of any nation or time period fascinating. I also enjoy teaching and tutoring for the SATs and other standardized exams, in part because I believe that any student can improve once he or she knows how to study, and most importantly, how to build the endurance to take a standardized test as lengthy as the SAT. I approach the SATs much in the same way that I approach running – if unit tests in school are one-mile warm-ups, then the SAT is a marathon. With the right training (and dedication), I firmly believe that any student can improve. I have taught SAT prep classes in a variety of capacities. I worked for a major SAT prep company while in graduate school, and also piloted my district’s SAT prep course (which I designed the curricula for). I take a collaborative approach to teaching, and both in the classroom and one-on-one, I believe that the best way for a student to learn material is to move beyond recall and work toward synthesis and analysis for complete understanding. When I’m not teaching or tutoring, I love to read history books (especially those about Robert Kennedy), run (long distances – in all types of weather), and travel. The most incredible place I have been is Tanzania – if I hadn’t packed three massive Teddy Roosevelt biographies in my suitcase, I definitely would have brought home many more souvenirs.

I recently graduated from Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA where I earned a Bachelors of Arts with honors in Government. I hope to attend law school in the future. I have tutored several students geometry, algebra, and pre-algebra helping them improve their understanding and accuracy of these topics. I tutor these subjects within math in addition to SAT math. I love math because of the great feeling one gets when solving a problem. Additionally, I have coached high school debaters who were nationally competitive. In that role, I helped them write and research on complex philosophical and policy topics. This experience, in addition to my writing-intensive major, has prepared me to tutor writing. I tutor 6th grade through 9th grade writing in addition to AP Government and History. I am passionate about these subjects because I love thinking about arguments. My tutoring philosophy is to focus on individual problems or assignments and work through examples with students; I do not lecture unless necessary. I find that students are more productive and successful when actively engaged. I strive to challenge my students while being patient and kind. Outside of academics, I am interested in cooking, travel, and skiing.

What is the difference between a artisan-made pizza vs. store-bought pizza, between, your grand-ma's apple pie vs the one you buy, a French cheese made in France vs made anywhere in the world but in France? The depth of flavors, the "savoir-faire", the authenticity.I was born and raised in France and came in the US. to earn a doctoral degree in Engineering. Since I love learning, I earned advanced degrees in Engineering ( most of them from France). Since I love teaching, I have been tutoring and/or formally teaching children, college students and professionals for more than a decade.I love teaching French - my mother tongue- not only via the mechanics of it -grammar, pronunciation etc-, but also via the culture. A lot of the soul of French language, the authentic expressions that we use in French are rooted in the culture: that's why we natives master them and non-native don't really.I also enjoy teaching the basics of engineering: algebra, calculus, trigonometry etc.Learning should to be fun and interesting! Once I establish what type of learner you are (visual, auditory, kinesthetic etc) , I provide tailored and interactive tutoring sessions to fit your particular learning style and needs. I have a solid professional experience in academia -I was a university professor- and in industry -I work as an engineer- so I can easily connect whatever you are learning in class to real-life examples. I have a strong and broad educational background (engineering, medicine etc ), thus I can share with you tips on how to prepare for and pass tests with calm, confidence...and flying colors.

I am an undergraduate student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am majoring in both Mathematics and Literature, Media, & Communication (LMC). My LMC concentration is in Science, Technology, & Culture, as well as Literature. I have been tutoring since high school, and have gained a lot of experience with the ups and downs of learning. I initially started out tutoring math, but over time I have grown to love tutoring literature as well.I believe that tutoring is a job that needs to be customized to the needs and learning style of each student, so I try to pay attention to what works and what doesn't as I get to know each student more. A tutoring session is unsuccessful if my student doesn't laugh at least once at a bad joke I make or a sarcastic comment. Tutoring should be fun, enriching, and empowering for everyone involved. In my spare time I watch a lot of Netflix, make music or art, and ponder life's many mysteries.
