My career in education began abroad in SE Asia as a TEFL certified teacher. I taught both TEFL and Elementary Science throughout different regions of Thailand. This passion for education led me to teach in South America as well, where I taught written and conversational English to children, adolescents and adults in Colombia. I am also a certified Preschool teacher in the state of Florida.

The importance of curiosity and inquiry should never be lost as we grow. I am a Certified Reading Specialist for K-12 and Classroom Instruction at Elementary School Level.I am currently an Adjunct Faculty Member, teaching literacy and instructional methods at the graduate level. I have a great deal of experience tutoring entrance exams.

I have been tutoring as a volunteer position since middle school, when I helped young children at a summer tutoring program organized by Faith Community Church. More recently, I have volunteered at the Westport Boys and Girls Club as well as helping my younger brother with his homework at home.I have attended St. Johns College of Annapolis, a unique liberal arts college with devoted teachers and a focus on person-to-person conversations about the material. I am currently taking time off of school for health reasons and am currently planning the next steps of my education.I aim to help elementary and middle school aged children with Writing, Math, and English, including grammar and reading comprehension. My math skills include Basic Arithmetic, Geometry, and Pre-Algebra as well as Algebra I. I am also skilled in general testing skills and SAT Prep in particular. I can also help with essential computer skills, on Mac or PC, and use of Microsoft applications.I am especially invested in tutoring in math and reading. If learned well, math can teach students to use the information around them in order to understand the world. And reading, if it is not treated like a chore, can open up imagination and possibilities, as well as teaching children ways that people express their experiences.To me, the most important part of tutoring is helping children to understand material in ways that allow them to learn to recognize their strengths and apply them to their studies in ways they may not immediately see. Some keen-eyed students can understand abstract subjects through visual aids, while some may work better with quantifications and variables, even when studying literature. It is important to me that students understand that their unique ways of learning are strengths, and not crutches. I avoid rote memorization whenever possible.Off the clock, I am a devoted reader and a novice poet and writer, as well as a fan of critical analysis of all types of media, especially books and video games. I am also a baker and a fan of nature hikes.

I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and I have over 8 years of tutoring/teaching experience. I've taught a wide range of students from Pre-K through college-age both in the U.S. and abroad. I started my teaching career as a tutor at the Notre Dame Writing Center. Since then, I especially love helping students write their college application essays. I've even helped students with their essays for graduate school. Apart from that, my favorite subjects to tutor include Spanish, German, and Math. I'm very passionate about languages because I grew up trilingual (my mother is German and my father is Mexican). I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown University with a B.S. in Global Health and a minor in Economics. Tutoring and mentoring students has been important to me, from tutoring refugees in English to helping aspiring Georgetown students with college essays. Though I tutor a broad range of subjects, I'm especially passionate about helping with English, college application essays, and SAT Writing. I remember firsthand how challenging the college application process can be, so I find it fulfilling to help students discern their own narratives and share techniques to help them succeed. As a 10-time tournament champion in Impromptu speaking, I also love coaching students in public speech and helping them build their confidence!

My goal is to aid in the educational development of adolescent students in multiple subject matters. I am a history-secondary education major, with a minor in psychology, and have experience teaching in the classroom at the secondary level. Therefore, I can bring new and proven methods to tutoring young students, as well as expertise within the subjects of history, writing and psychology. I am also a proven successful test taker, having scored a 2000 on my SAT exam, passed 4 AP Tests, passed the Praxis II exam, scored a 700 on a History SAT Subject Exam, and passed the EdTPA Teachers Proficiency Exam. Therefore I can teach skills and strategies for test taking to improve scores.

I am a college instructor with ten years experience in the classroom as a teacher and tutor. Originally from South Carolina, I went to school in Pennsylvania and currently live in Alabama. I believe that students learn best through practice and approaching learning through a relaxed lens, thinking about the larger, structural questions behind their concerns in order to gain a broader and more inclusive understanding of the subject matter.
