I'm a 2013 Truman State University graduate with a Bachelors of Science in biology. I spent the two years following my graduation teaching introductory biology to freshman in Harlingen, Texas. I recently moved back to St. Louis to eventually pursue a doctorate in Physical Therapy.My interests include anything biology related, nutrition, food of all kinds, and reading. Additionally, I am a certified Les Mills BodyCombat instructor and enjoy instructing and working out in general whenever possible.

My philosophy in teaching is based on the fundamental principle that it's okay to not know-- we learn through our mistakes and I will be cheering you on, never punish you for learning.My grandmother was a wonderful teacher who helped me re-learn Chinese when I moved back from Japan to China. Because my grandma served as a mentor who believed that 'I can do it', I remained confident and went from bottom of class to top. Ultimately, we will not only work on your weakness, but also develop mental and physical toughness.Tutoring experience:spent 2 years in college tutoring pre-meds in Organic chemistry, and student athletes in Physics, Biology, and Chinese. Upon graduation, I spent 1 year tutoring elementary students in math. I felt a sense of accomplishment when my student improve over the course of tutoring, and I felt extremely appreciated when I receive positive feedbacks from the students. I was lucky to have truly exceptional teachers, starting in elementary school and continuing on through my neurosurgical residency. Inspired by them, I have been teaching in one way or another for about 35 years. Whether I was planning an operation with a resident physician, making orbital models with the chemistry students, or working alongside science fair participants (incidentally including my grandchildren!), these inspirational educators were always in my mind. Tutoring is just another form of interactive, mutual learning, which can serve to expand and strengthen the knowledge base we all need to be participatory citizens.

I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry from Florida State University. During my time at Florida State, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for the FSU Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. I spent my time teaching for the Organic Chemistry Laboratory course, as it is my favorite subject. I also have worked tutoring pre-medical and pre-pharmacy students in all of the prerequisite science courses for their respective school.I have found that the best way to tutor a student is to address each students needs and gain an understanding of their unique thought process; nobody solves a problem the exact same way. With many educational institutions adapting a philosophy of "teaching to the test" rather than an understanding, I feel an individualistic approach is the best way to complement this paradigm.When I am not working, I enjoy working on my project car, swimming, and running.

I believe this is one of my best qualities to work as a tutor; the ability to mold concepts to in a way that others are able to comprehend them with ease. I have had many years of teaching experience, which has varied in many ways throughout my life. When I was a teenager, I worked as a swimming instructor for children ages 3 to 12. This allowed me to foster a specific teaching technique where I patiently worked with my students to dissipate their fears (like the fear of water), and build the trust needed for them to allow me to explain very complicated concepts in a way that they'll understand it. I used this technique later in college while I tutored fellow classmates and other college students various subjects, including: math, chemistry, physics, Spanish and biology. After college, I worked as a middle school and high school tutor, teaching math and sciences to children in East Orange, New Jersey.In addition to my teaching experience, I graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University with a GPA of 3.8 and a bachelors in both Chemistry and Spanish.
