I am a senior studying Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science at Virginia Commonwealth University. I love helping students reach their goals by making learning approachable and tailored to their unique needs. As a teaching assistant at Girls Who Code and at my university, I've gained experience breaking down tough concepts in subjects like math and computer science. STEM subjects are my favorite to tutor because I enjoy connecting what we learn in the classroom to real-world applicationsit's exciting to see students have those "aha!" moments. Outside of academics, I'm part of a competitive dance team and a South Asian a cappella group, so I know how to balance a busy schedule while staying focused and motivated. I bring that same energy and encouragement to my tutoring sessions, helping students feel confident and supported every step of the way!

I am Tyler. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA with a bachelor's of the Arts in English Literature. I plan on furthering my education with a master's degree in ESL education. I have worked as a tutor as well as for the YMCA as a counselor, and I tutor after and before school now as a teacher. I am able to tutor your child in algebra, biology, ESL/ELL, essay editing, grammar and mechanics, literature, phonics, public speaking, reading, writing, and psychology. My favorite subjects to tutor are math and English: math because I enjoy the operations and the fulfillment you get when a problem is solved correctly and English because I love reading stories then discussing and analyzing them. My teaching philosophy is based around the student exploring the possibilities of their subjects and seeing as many way as possible to work through a problem. I think that students should be taught to look at their knowledge as a bag of tools that help them assess what needs to be fixed, if a student has a wide variety of tools they will be successful in conquering a problem, but if they do not possess those tools they need to be taught the skills to employ their knowledge to their work.
I am currently a lead preschool teacher. I received my Bachelor's in Psychology from VCU and am looking to return to school to further my education. While in college, I worked as a Supplemental Instruction leader, teaching general biology and anatomy. I have also worked in an after school program with elementary age children, but I have my fondest memories volunteering as a counselor for Camp Kesem. In my own experience, I loved school and now I love teaching even more at all age levels! I especially enjoy the challenge of getting creative to discover what approach and mediums work best for each student. I am available for in person as well as online tutoring.
I am a native french speaker who graduated with a BS in chemistry and a math minor. I am from Cameroon in Africa which makes me a really open and knowledgeable about different cultures. I have been a tutor for several years now from high school to college. I enjoy tutoring because not only I can contribute to one's success but it allows me to learn something from the student. That is what makes tutoring so GREAT.So I look forward to be part of your road to success
I have my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a concentration in applied mathematics. My favorite subject to teach is Mathematics. I love helping students get excited about math and see it in the world around them because it is the basis of everything. My teaching philosophy is that nothing is unlearnable and that my job as a teacher is to make sure students truly understand the material and why it is essential. My teaching style is concentrating on fundamentals using color and practice problems and slowly working to mastery problems. I enjoy watching movies, binging new TV shows, reading, and antiquing in my spare time.
"I just get it the way you explain it" is a refrain I cherish in my teaching experience. I have taught all middle school academic subjects even though my degrees are in music. A passionate learner myself, I strive to share that with my students. Whether leading a classroom, instructing my own children, or teaching private music lessons, personalizing and customizing the learning experience is and always has been the ultimate goal. I hold bachelor's and master's degrees in music performance which I eventually used to get my teaching certification. I am certified to teach middle school math (including algebra), ELA, and science; math is my passion. When not teaching, I love to travel. On my bucket list are seeing the brown bears in Katmai, Alaska and polar bears in Churchill, Canada as well as Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. I cherish working with learners, facilitating the skills that will help them open doors that will maximize their potential to positively engage in our world.
I have been in education for 7 years now, and have experience with all age groups. I have worked EXTENSIVELY in middle school, with male students specifically in small group and reading enrichment/IEP settings, working as an English Interventionist. While most small groups of students I received were 5th-8th grade males, I also have experience with young ladies writing and reading groups and one-on-one tutoring, as well as extra time facilitation on tests. I have just recently become certified to teach ESL/EFL with the International TEFL Academy, and I love being a teacher. My topics of instruction have always been English, Arts and ESL. I write children's books and poetry, and am a visual artist/performance artist.I believe in informality where it intersects with mutual respect and a willingness to try your best. I'm here to help and here to encourage strength in my students grades just as much as I want them to look forward to that future I'm helping them secure! I have always gotten a lot out of working in small settings like this because it's the perfect place for a student in need of that extra tutoring support to have privacy and my full attention, which fosters so much enthusiasm even at the end of a more challenging session.Looking forward to meeting you and helping you achieve intellectual and artistic greatness.
I am currently a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology. I enjoy meeting new people and helping them out. I have tutored students in Math, Reading, and English. I love working a problem out with a student and seeing the lightbulb go off in their eyes.
I have worked as a tutor for 3+ years now and have hundreds of hours of experience both online and in person. I am currently a fourth-year undergraduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University, majoring in Chemistry (biochemistry). As an academic tutor, I specialize in the subjects of math, reading, writing, chemistry, biology, and Spanish. I work with all age groups (from pre-K to college), but my focus is high school and college-level Math and Sciences. If you're looking for a tutor to help you pass a class, study for an exam, or even complete a homework assignment, look no further!
As a Spanish tutor, I think it is very important to review material, have time for questions, and encourage students to understand the language as a whole. I have been a Spanish tutor for 4 years and I truly enjoy helping students reach their goals academically. I find that expanding vocabulary helps students to express themselves more clearly, breaking down grammar helps the students correctly insert verbs and conjugations into their sentences, and introducing common phrases or greetings helps students understand the cultural values of different Spanish speaking countries. It is my personal goal to always continue improving my Spanish tutoring skills and therefore, feedback is always welcome! I look forward to meeting you and sharing the Spanish language with you as well.
I am a highly passionate, motivated and creative teacher with fifteen years of experience in multiple educational settings. It is of utmost importance to me to find ways for students to form personal connections to the material to provide relevance, excitement, and meaning for them individually. I am adept in creating and implementing curriculum, igniting educational excitement in children, and fostering a love for learning. "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -Yeats
My name is Monika, and I'm currently a Junior at VCU. My major is Biology and I'm minoring in Chemistry and Mathematics. In addition, I'm also on the pre-med track, so I have taken many science classes!
I am a certified elementary teacher and have worked in education for more than 25 years. I've tutored and taught students in all subjects from grades K - 7 and have worked with students with various learning disabilities. I've worked in public and private schools as a teacher and a tutor and have helped many students improve their grades by 1 - 2 levels. I currently work as a reading instructor at RPS.
I have been fortunate to have two careers in my life due to my wonderful wife. I have worked in the restaurant industry for more than fifteen years in all facets of management and my favorite aspect was the interaction with people. When my schedule stopped providing a good quality of life outside of my career, I chose to pursue education. I received by undergraduate and graduate degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University. My Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts are both in History. I have been teaching at the college level for almost six years and once again I get to spend time with people. I am a parent and teacher and love helping students achieve their goals and reach success. I enjoy tutoring almost all of the social sciences with my favorite being United States History. I think understanding the history of our country is important and vital for us to influence and effect change in our society. If I had to describe my tutoring style it would be a patient tutor. I strive to create an active environment for each student as studies have shown that active learners retain a much greater percentage of the information than in a passive environment. I ask questions building on students knowledge to reinforce themes, knowledge, and success.I look forward to working with students in a variety of areas and helping them surpass their goals of success.
Hi! I am an MSW student at Boston college and an alumni of Virginia Commonwealth University. I enjoy working with students and specialize in writing and reading. During my free time I take film pictures or read young adult!
Hello! I graduated college in 2023 and have been working in public education these past two years tutoring middle schoolers in math and algebra. I love seeing things click in their heads and helping them gain confidence in themselves and their skills.
I believe one of the most important qualities a person can have is a continuing thirst for knowledge. This thirst isn't measured by grades on a test or how much trivia one can regurgitate or by IQ, but by the ability to think critically about the world - which begins with solid foundations in math, science, and language. Increasingly, as society continues exponentially towards automation and the global exchange of superfluous information, our roles will shift from simple workers to stewards of this growing library. In order to innovate for the future - to deconstruct arguments, reach rational conclusions and develop new ideas - students today will need the fundamental understanding that the giants before them developed.I'm grateful for all of the opportunities I had to enrich my own understanding and cement my passion for learning: patient, creative teachers, a welcoming environment, and people to challenge me. I hope to bring that very passion to every student I tutor, and to help them find ways to achieve whatever they set their minds to.
I am a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with dual degrees in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics and Financial Technology with a concentration in Actuarial Science. I have three years of experience teaching middle school and high school math (and one year of teaching science) at my church's Christian school. I also have experience tutoring high school, college, and adult students including other teachers. I believe a strong education is one of the great equalizers that opens up opportunities to succeed in life.
My first teaching gig was nearly 5,000 miles away from home, in the small town of Szolnok, Hungary. I had just graduated Lynchburg College with a BA in English, and having grown up in Virginia my entire life, I was eager to experience something cultural and new. I figured teaching English abroad would be the most intense, interesting, and educational way to jumpstart a career in teaching. Now, ten years later, I can say that my initial teaching experience abroad was the tipping point in my life, for it led me to become not only a lifelong teacher, but a lifetime student as well.Since 2005, I have gone on to teach English in Poland and Hungary, and also back in my hometown, Manassas, Virginia. I have taught English and Literature to high school students, ESL to adult professionals, and last year I taught Creative Writing to Honors Freshmen at Virginia Commonwealth University. At VCU's Writing Center I privately tutored students, helping them write and revise their essays for their final portfolios. Having played guitar since the age of fourteen (and also touring in a couple rock bands), I have some experience teaching music and guitar as well.My education includes a BA in English, an MA in European Studies, and an MFA in Creative Writing (fiction). In my spare time I like reading, writing creatively, and playing music. Most weekends in New York I try to visit a museum or see a concert, and many-a-Sundays you'll find me burrowed in a cafe and reading manuscripts for my day-time job (a literary agency).
I am currently working on my Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I attained my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. VCU is where I have held bioinorganic research positions as well as teaching positions. I acted as a teaching assistant in various chemistry and biology classes while studying and am currently an adjunct faculty teaching chemistry courses for the university. In addition to Varsity Tutors, I tutor for PCG education where I prepare students at J L Francis Elemetnary School for their mathematics SOLs. Throughout my different experiences with teaching and tutoring, I have found that each individual requires a different teaching style. Adjusting styles to accommodate different learning styles can be difficult at start, but overtime it helps the success of students to achieve their goals. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends in family both indoors and outdoors. During the warmer months I love fishing, going to the beach, and camping. No matter what the weather is, I enjoy playing indoor basketball and ping pong with my friends. Enjoying these activities gives me the relaxation needed to stay focused and work hard in my studies.
I am a graduate of Liberty University where I received my Master of Education Degree with a concentration in Secondary Education: Teaching and Learning. Prior to my graduate studies, I attended Virginia Commonwealth University where I received a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education, & Exercise Science with a focus on Community Health Education. I also earned a Postgraduate Professional Teaching license with an endorsement in Family and Consumer Sciences. Since graduation, I have built bridges in my profession! However, not your traditional bridge, but bridges between where people are and where they want to be while making every effort to create pathways between perceived impossibilities and realized goals. I am an experienced Instructor with a demonstrated history of working in the education and workforce industry. I journeyed into Workforce Development, after taking a break from the public school sector, where I began Career Coaching and instructing in higher education. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Human/Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Nutrition, and other Career and Technical Education courses. I am a strong advocate of education. Learning is continuous and is unquestionably essential for an enhanced quality of life. I try to communicate this belief to all of my students. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and using my creative abilities to make old things new!
I am a licensed Pre-K to 6th grade teacher from the Richmond, VA area. I graduated in 2012 from Virginia Commonwealth University with my Masters in Teaching for Early and Elementary Education. I have done post-graduate coursework for working with Gifted and Talented students. I am in my fifth year teaching and currently teaching in a private Kindergarten. In the afternoons I also help with homework help for K-5 students. I have previously taught 4th grade and in early childhood settings. I was also a tutor for Huntington Learning Centers while I was searching for a full time teaching position. During my tutoring there I worked with elementary students as well as with middle school students for math and science. I was also an SAT and test prep tutor. I decided to look into Varsity Tutors because I enjoy teaching and I was looking for additional income. My love of teaching goes back to my own elementary school days and playing school as a child. I always said I wanted to be a teacher from about the time I was in second grade.
I am a recent law school graduate from Suffolk University Law School and hold a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in business from Virginia Commonwealth University. I believe that every student is capable! I am able to motivate students and teach them skills to relax and be confident. I believe in meeting the individual needs of all students and make it a point to teach in the way that they best learn. Teaching is more than content, it is helping students see the relevance and knowing that they can be successful!I am a certified teacher and administrator who loves to work with students of all abilities.
I am a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science. I am passionate about math and its importance in science and everyday life. As such, I have been a TA for an undergraduate algebra class for 6 semesters and a math instructor for students K-12 for 3 years. I love working with students and teaching them not only mathematics but also to love numbers.
Anyone can learn mathematics, but it is easy for students to get overwhelmed. Far too often, I hear people say "I hate math", convinced that they are bad at it. But what I've often found is that students simply need another way of viewing the problems. Sometimes, the student needs help breaking down and organizing the problem. Other students need help visualizing the problem and understanding exactly what it is the problem is asking. This is accompanied with many graphs and charts. As a junior at Virginia Commonwealth University studying Applied Mathematics, I am often asked by friends to help them with their math homework. I have spent countless hours teaching calculus to engineering, computer science, physics, and economics majors. Being one of seven children, I have been helping my sibling with math for as long as I can remember. I believe that a solid understanding of mathematics is crucial to success, and the demand for people with quantitative skills is only growing.
I am a current 4th year student at Virginia Commonwealth University working towards my Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry while also pursuing a Medical school education in the near future. VCU is known to be one of the most diverse school on the east coast and because of that I have been expose to a wide variety of students with different learning styles and goals. Recently, I completed a semester as a tutor for Genetics. This experience taught me the patience and persistency needed to have a successful tutor and student relationship, while maintaining a relaxed environment.I am full Ecuadorian and moved to the US in 2007. Because of this, I am also fluent in Spanish and thoroughly enjoy tutoring people whether it be just conversational practice or practicing strict grammar rules. In my spare time, I practice one of my passions which is the guitar and stay active by going to the gym.

Hi there! My teaching philosophy focuses on building students' confidence and independence when solving a problem. I believe in meeting students where they are and adapting my approach to fit their learning styles. My passion for teaching lies in seeing those "lightbulb" moments when my student overcomes their frustrations and understands the concept at heart. My goal is to foster a safe environment where students strengthen their foundation in education. After all, knowledge is power.
As a dedicated educator with a Master's degree in Special Education from Virginia Commonwealth University, I have over 25 years of experience teaching students from kindergarten through eighth grade, primarily in English Language Arts and Social Studies. My teaching philosophy centers on creating supportive learning environments that foster student engagement and confidence. I am passionate about helping students build their reading and writing skills through tailored strategies, such as interactive book clubs and multimedia resources that enhance their understanding of diverse topics. I believe in the importance of connecting lessons to students' backgrounds and interests, which has proven effective in improving their academic outcomes. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy exploring literature and sharing my love for reading with my students, as I believe it is a powerful tool for personal and academic growth.
I am a graduate of the Masters Program at Virginia Commonwealth University with my Master's in History. I also attended with Central Washington University, where I double majored in and graduated with Bachelor's degrees in History and Geography. Since graduation I have been searching for museum or archive work. I am a specialist in American and Military History. I am also knowledgeable in both World History and Geography, the latter of which I have my second Bachelor's in. I taught swim lessons to children for six years and that is the original basis for my tutoring knowledge. I will argue for in depth education in both my fields because the past and how we remember it matters and is part of the culture wars of today and where we are as a species and people determines so much of our lives.
I've been passionate about robotics, engineering, and technology since I was a little kid. My education was a major part of my upbringing and who I am today, so tutoring seems like a good way to give others the same support I received.Few experiences have been as rewarding as sharing my passion for science and tech with kids as a robotics camp counselor. Seeing children get excited to learn about programming, design, and problem solving the same way I did at their age with my old legos was amazing.Right now I'm looking to tutor in mostly STEM subjects, and though the website won't seem to let me check the box, I also speak conversational spanish.
I am a Junior in Chemical Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am a founding member of VCU's chapter of the engineering sorority, Phi Sigma Rho. In my free time I enjoy playing the piano, cuddling with my puppy while watching Riverdale, and playing Sims 4.I love learning and helping others learn as well. I believe that no subject is "too hard" or "too difficult" for STEM and non-STEM inclined students to learn and become proficient at.Beyond my skills in STEM subjects, I also have a lot experience with the college application process, along college level writing, essays, and research papers.
My approach to coaching and tutoring is grounded in the belief that how I show up matters. My tone, responses, and decisions shape the learning environment and influence whether adults feel supported, challenged, or discouraged. In both coaching and tutoring, I am responsible for creating conditions that promote growth rather than fear, reflection rather than compliance, and problem-solving rather than quick fixes. I view coaching and tutoring as shared learning processes. Adults bring their experiences, expertise, and professional identities into the work, and meaningful learning happens when those experiences are acknowledged and examined. At times, tutoring requires more direct instruction or modeling; at other times, coaching calls for questioning, reflection, and guided discovery. In both cases, my role is to help learners recognize how their choices can escalate or de-escalate situations and either strengthen or undermine relationships. Effective adult learning depends on trust, relevance, and agency. Whether I am tutoring a specific skill or coaching broader practice, I focus on learning that is practical, connected to real challenges, and immediately useful. I balance structure with flexibility, knowing that adults need clarity while also having room to reflect, adapt, and take risks. Growth occurs when learners feel safe enough to be honest and supported enough to try something new. At the core of my coaching and tutoring work is a commitment to professionalism, ethics, and reflection. I support educators in examining how their beliefs influence their practice and how daily decisions affect students, families, and colleaguesparticularly those from vulnerable or marginalized communities. When adults feel respected and empowered, they are more likely to build confidence, deepen their skills, and act with intention. I know coaching or tutoring is effective when learners are actively engaged, willing to reflect on their practice, and increasingly confident in their ability to make thoughtful, humane decisions in complex situations.
I am a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where I earned by B.S. in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry. Currently, I attend the University of Richmond, where I am working to become a licensed teacher. Over the past 6 years I have had the pleasure of working with students as young as 2nd grade, all the way up to the college level. I prefer the sciences (biology, chemistry, Earth science) and math (elementary to algebra II). When tutoring, I encourage my students arrive at the solution by continuously asking questions, rather than directly giving answers. I also enjoy the use of manipulatives to speak to a wider range of learning styles, and to add an element of fun to the learning process. My experiences have allowed me to effectively manage my time and to work with a wide demographic of students. I look forward to helping my clients succeed in the classroom, and ultimately discover their potential.
There isn't only one way to learn, therefore there isn't only one way to teach! Adapting to learning styles and the varying needs of different students is something that I aim to do at all times; there is no one-size-fits-all method to learning. Each student's unique voice and method of comprehension in an academic environment deserves to be heard and considered with flexibility and an open mind. I do my best to listen and adapt to a student's learning style, while striving to help them feel confident in expressing their strengths, questions, and needs to others. In turn, I intend to help them become motivated to pursue their academic betterment independently, encouraging them to embrace education as an opportunity for personal growth and empowerment.I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.A. in English. I predominantly tutor reading comprehension and writing skills, in addition to providing essay planning and editing help for all subjects and grade levels. I can also provide homework help and studying for various subjects (literature, history, social studies, social sciences, psychology, religious studies).
With over five years of tutoring experience, I am deeply committed to helping students better understand their course material and succeed in standardized examinations such as the SAT and ACT. My work has spanned middle and high school students across various subjects, both as a certified tutor at an SAT prep center and through individualized instruction with Varsity Tutors. I also led a mentorship program in high school, which further shaped my belief in the value of building strong, trustworthy relationships with students. I make an extra effort to connect with each student, recognizing that effective learning happens at different paces and requires a tailored approach. Drawing from my background in bioinformatics and medical training, I bring structure, patience, and adaptability to my teaching style to ensure every student feels supported and empowered to achieve their goals.
I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, where I double majored in Psychology and Cognitive Science. More recently, I received my M.S. in Criminal Justice from the Wilder School of Government & Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University. During my time at VCU, I had the privilege of serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, which allowed me the opportunity to teach undergraduate courses. Among my responsibilities as a TA, my favorite tasks involved my ability to work one-on-one with students and see them improve their grades over the course of the semester with my help. These days I am most interested in improving the critical thinking and critical writing skills of students who will comprise the next generation of college graduates and working professionals. The ability to express oneself clearly through writing is an invaluable skill both within academia and the professional workforce. I believe it is my job to provide students with the necessary preparation and skills they will need to succeed in a college environment and beyond. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading fiction (with a special soft spot for sci-fi/fantasy), running and training for my next marathon, and experimenting with new recipes in my kitchen.
