I have worked in the restaurant industry for more than fifteen years in all facets of management and my favorite aspect was the interaction with people. When my schedule stopped providing a good quality of life outside of my career, I chose to pursue education. I received by undergraduate and graduate degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University. My Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts are both in History. I have been teaching at the college level for almost six years and once again I get to spend time with people. I am a parent and teacher and love helping students achieve their goals and reach success. I enjoy tutoring almost all of the social sciences with my favorite being United States History. I think understanding the history of our country is important and vital for us to influence and effect change in our society. If I had to describe my tutoring style it would be a patient tutor. I strive to create an active environment for each student as studies have shown that active learners retain a much greater percentage of the information than in a passive environment. I ask questions building on students knowledge to reinforce themes, knowledge, and success. I look forward to working with students in a variety of areas and helping them surpass their goals of success.
