About Me

I am a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago and will be attending medical school in August 2016 to pursue my dream of becoming a pediatrician. I received my Bachelor of Sciences in Biological Sciences and graduated with College Honors, Highest Departmental Distinction in the Biological Sciences Department, and from my university's Honors College. I am very passionate about tutoring after my experience volunteering as a tutor for patients at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital. Throughout my volunteer experience, I have been able to help tutor a wide variety of age groups ranging from pre-school to high school students and across a wide array of subjects with a primary focus on math and science. In addition, during college, I greatly enjoyed tutoring my fellow peers across different science subjects. Between the math and science subjects I have tutored, my favorite is chemistry. This is because I have personally experienced how daunting and complex chemistry can be at first. However, by gaining a strong understanding in the theoretical background, having the right mindset, and through practice, chemistry can become easy to understand and conquer and I greatly enjoy seeing students become confident in that subject. The most vital aspect of tutoring is being able to identify the student's strongest study skills and having them give their best by being patient, compassionate, and understanding. Although science and math courses can be rigorous, I like employing methods that make these complex subjects more simple to understand by utilizing visuals, mnemonics, and different problem solving strategies. I currently work as a neuroscience research assistant and my research focuses on trying to better understand how long-term memory and learning is employed in the adult brain. Thus, I am greatly interested in recognizing the best learning methods for my students. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, traveling, running, reading, watching movies, and spending time with my family and friends.
