My academic background in biology, psychology, biomedical engineering, and educational technology have been productive stepping stones towards that future. I work a lot. I play a lot. I read a lot. The best lessons, books, and materials in the world won't get students excited about learning and willing to work hard if they're not motivated. Motivation, both intrinsic and extrinsic, is a key factor in the success of students at all stages of their education, and teachers can play a pivotal role in providing and encouraging that motivation in their students. The answers to these questions will help start formulating that plan. If I am talking to the adult I like to ask them how their child learns (visual, auditorily, or by hands on doing. That helps me make the sessions more relevant and motivating. I believe that in order for students to achieve their goals they must be motivated and invested in their learning. They must be supported in a way that is inspiring, encouraging and empowering, and by making the sessions relatable to them, and met them where they are at. Sometimes a student doesn't want to divide into the lesson part of the session right away. I will have a game, review, or just a few minutes for them to talk.I also like to send updates, worksheets, websites, and other helpful resources to the students if they and their adults are open to that.Another thing that I appreciate is the open communication and feedback. If an adult would like me to change a session (time, topic, or arrangement) I encourage the feedback. Again we are working together to help the student achieve knowledge, understanding, and life skills.
