My name is Rekha, a junior at Washington University in St. Louis, and I'm majoring in Global Health and Environment on the pre-med track. At WashU, I tutor Calculus II students through a group called Peer Led Team Learning (PLTL). The PLTL philosophy engages students to fully understand the steps in how to critically think of a problem. For me, I recognize that everyone's learning style, pace, and mindset is different. It's incredibly important to me to establish communication with my student(s). In terms of my teaching style, I tend to ask open ended questions both to guide the student and to go beyond the example presented to prepare for tougher questions that may show up on exams.Aside from tutoring, I'm involved in a couple of nonprofits. I work for NoStigmas, a nonprofit dedicated to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention through peer support. It has been a humbling experience to get to know the NoStigmas community and encouraging others to share their story through our platform. I also volunteer for City Faces, which is a nonprofit that creates a safe space for children ranging from ages 2-18 to express themselves in St. Louis. Although it can get challenging trying to control 20 hyper kids at once, I cherish the memories and creativity of the kids that I've bonded with over the past two years.In addition, I love to dance--specifically Raas, a traditional Indian dance. The Raas circuit is a whole subculture for college students who love to dance to compete nationally. Our team has traveled to California, Texas, and Illinois dancing at various competitions. The feeling dancing on stage is one to never forget: the adrenaline pumping through your veins, the crowd cheering for you, and most importantly, the teammates dancing along your side.I hope to help students through Varsity Tutors to the best of my ability and look forward to the experience ahead.

I earned a MBA degree at Northeastern University. I received my undergraduate degree in Computer Science Engineering. Ever since graduation I have been performing coaching/teaching activities at the different industries I have worked in including Oil, Technology, Banking, Finance, Health and now properly in Education since 2006. I have lived in different countries for a considerable amount of time including Brazil, Costa Rica, Venezuela and Panama. As you can tell, most of them Spanish speaking countries with the exception of the first one. I have tutored extensively in Spanish in most cases students from International Schools who require preparation in math for standardized tests such as the PSAT, SAT and ACT as well as for other international examinations; though it is noteworthy I tutor a broad range of academic subjects and standardized tests. I enjoy the spontaneity of the students. I like to ask questions while the class takes place in order to make sure the subject is understood. I care about students reaching their goals, and that is why I constantly remind them the importance of committing to regular practice. In a competitive world the student who is better prepared is the one that stands out accessing the best programs and universities. In my leisure time I enjoy reading novels, watching movies and TV comedy series, biking, yoga, overall I enjoy a pacific and healthy life.

In May of 2015, I graduated from the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota. There, I earned my degree in Biochemistry while working as a coffee shop barista, environmental chemistry laboratory assistant, and emergency department medical scribe. Further, as an undergraduate, I developed a love for teaching as I worked as a Teacher's Assistant in various biology and chemistry laboratory courses and later had the opportunity to serve as a private tutor in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with students in the subject areas I love.With academic understanding comes excitement, further curiosity, and a sense of achievement. Leading my students toward this understanding is my goal, and something I take great pride in. In August of 2015, I began my medical school education at Creighton University. I am excited to continue working as a tutor while earning a degree that will allow me to be a life-long teacher.

This involves helping my students to learn the best ways in which to study challenging material for them as an individual so that they can be successful not just at their current educational level but also have study skills to take with them throughout their lives.

As a student, I am highly interested in the sciences which has led me to be in this position as a pharmacy student. I love to learn about biochemical processes of our body and how medications can alter that. Once that knowledge has been obtained, it is amazing to learn about how it can be applied therapeutically. My background consists of a public health degree while which helps me understand the broad perspective of health and then learning about pharmacy helps me zoom in and be able to clinically help patients. Professionally, I aspire to be in a workplace where I could continue being innovative and where I can utilize my compassion for individuals. I want a degree of freedom along with my job where I could learn new things and at the same time follow protocol.

Every student has the ability to learn, to overcome challenges, and to get excited over new discoveries.
