From a young age, I studied Art. This eventually led me to study at Parsons The New School for Design and graduate from SUNY Fredonia with a B.A. in Visual Arts and New Media. When I was young, however, and before my family migrated to the states, I had no idea English even existed. But I eventually learned it to fluency, and that sparked a new found passion for learning all types of languages; especially Romantic and Asian languages. At the moment, I'm learning Korean, German, and Italian for fun.I love teaching, and I hope to eventually become a certified high school teacher in Japan. I have close to four years experience teaching and tutoring in both the United States and Japan. In the states, I tutored Math and English 1-on-1 (in English and Spanish). In Japan, I taught ESL in a classroom setting of 15 students from Kindergarden to 11th grade. High school is only 3 years in Japan!I speak English and Spanish at native fluency levels, and I speak Japanese at a conversational level. Because I learned Japanese while living in Japan for a year and a half, I speak it nearing the N3 Proficiency Level. And I know somewhere between 500-700 Kanji (Chinese characters).In my free time, I work on my art. I love writing and creating comics. On rare occasion I try to develop games, with varying degrees of success. I love computers, and I love trying to understand them. I love arts and sciences that focus on communication and storytelling, such as movies and video games.

I'm a sophomore in college studying for a Bachelor's of Arts in Political Science and Spanish who is interested in helping students do the best they can! That being said, I have also taken and passed 13 AP exams in subjects ranging from AP Calculus BC and AP US History to AP Spanish and AP Chemistry. I am well-versed in taking exams and preparing for them, and I enjoy helping students improve their knowledge and their test scores! Learning takes patience and time, and I can provide you with the resources and aid you need to be the best you can be! I specialize in helping students be organized and approach daunting topics. I understand how difficult it can be to work with a teacher or someone who feels out of your reach, and I hope to not only be more relatable to you than your teachers, but also to get to understand how you learn best and adapt our learning plan to fit your needs, whatever they may be! In my spare time, I play with my three dogs: Lucy, Molly, and Daisy!

While working towards my Chemistry degree at the University of Oklahoma, I worked as a chemistry, biology, and Spanish tutor both through the University and via self-employment. It has always been my greatest passion to help someone navigate with ease a subject which they have previously regarded as difficult or stressful. I would describe my tutoring philosophy as one where I do less talking than necessary--it's my belief that engaging my student in this way will improve their learning exponentially, while also making the session considerably more enjoyable! I am now working towards my Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Chicago and tutoring part time. I am available for online as well as in-person tutoring.

I have been tutoring Spanish for over 15 years, from Beginner through Advanced, including AP and college-level. I am patient, reliable, and good at simplifying and explaining complex ideas. I love teaching and helping people to learn. I graduated with a degree in Spanish from Duke University and also hold a master's in International Relations from NYU.

One of my favorite writers, Bret Lott, once wrote: "Of course words matter. Of course we must choose carefully." As a teacher, I aim to impart Mr. Lott's lesson to my students, chiefly, that we must give time and effort, as well as great care, to the manner in which we express ourselves. After all, writing is a craft, much like a painter taking brush to canvas, or a sprinter gliding along a track. Keeping this and other lessons in my mind, I teach my students the value of hard work and the virtue of perseverance, all in an effort to achieve their potential.I have spent the last three years working as a high school English teacher in the NYC public school system, and earned a Master's degree in Education (grades 7 to 12). Prior to becoming a teacher, I earned an MFA degree in Creative Writing. My poems and literary criticism have appeared in such respected journals as American Book Review, Washington Square, Eleven Eleven, and others. I will bring the breadth and scope of this experience and knowledge to work for you and your needs.

Moving to South Florida in 1997 provided me with many exciting opportunities, one of them being educating children and adults from many different countries and cultures. I began tutoring English as a Second Language ESOL in 2001 while hosting a foreign exchange student, and I have taught children, adults, business executives, homemakers, and college-bound students since that time. I have extensive experience in teaching all levels of ESOL, accent reduction, conversation classes, business English, reading, and writing as well as TOEFL test prep. Working as an editor, translator, and interpreter keeps my grammar and editing skills sharp, which comes in very handy when tutoring students in English. Although my passion is in teaching languages, I also enjoy tutoring grammar school students in whatever area of difficulty they may be struggling with at school and seeing them overcome obstacles to obtain better grades. Lessons are always tailored to the students needs and learning styles.Having raised four children, I feel quite at home working with little ones. Their boundless energy and inquisitiveness makes these classes especially fun and interesting to teach. I believe all class sessions should be interactive and engaging, regardless of the age of the student, and I always try to inject energy and enthusiasm into the equation, hoping it will be contagious. I love to see both children and adults progress in their academic skills, which gives them confidence in every area of their lives.After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish in 2006 from Florida International University, with a minor in translation and certificates in interpreting and translation, I also began tutoring/teaching Spanish. I have had the privilege of teaching High School Spanish 1 to a homeschool group, and I currently tutor business executives and children in learning Spanish as a foreign language. Having learned a second language as an adult, I have a unique perspective into the needs of students who may be struggling with learning a second language or using it in their work or school environment.In my free time, I enjoy horseback riding, CrossFit, triathlon races, and spending time with family.
