I graduated from Stony Brook University in NY with my Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a focus on Emergency Medicine. I am currently enrolled in a Masters of Physician Assistant Program at Thiel College. My strength is that I have a wide range of education and have developed several study stragies through trial and error. I have great interpersonal skills which have really allowed me to be an excellent listener and be very observative. As a research assistant in the Social Competence and Treatment Lab in the psychology department at my university, my role as a behavioral coder had really allowed me to develop a unique skill of being able to analyze and be alert to body language and verbal ques that may normally go unnoticed. As a graduate student pursuing medicine, I am patient and acknowledge the dedication and work ethic it takes to do well academically. In my free time, I really enjoy working with my hands and crafting, I enjoy drawing, making collages, and painting. I make handmade jewelry and it keeps me discipled to not give up because it is difficult and frustrating at times when I don't get a certain skill perfect. Thank you

My name is Laurie Brierton and I have been a special education teacher for 20 years. I have a master's + 45 degree and I am also nationally board certified as an exceptional needs specialist. I also hold a Wilson Reading System Level 1 Certificate and have earned recognition as a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner. My areas of certification on my WV teaching certificate include: Elementary Education, Multi-Categorical (LD, BD, MI), Autism, and Preschool Special Needs. I also hold a certification in Secondary English in PA.

I am Perinatal Nurse Specialist who believes in empowering nurses to bring evidence based practice to the bedside. I have a background in maternal child health, hospice, community health, and high risk care of women and infants.

My passion is teaching. I have been a nurse for 14 years. And I have been in nurse education for 10 years. I love to see my students connect the dots, develop critical thinking and develop their own passion for being a nurse. I love to tell my students, I am not always going to be here. So I don't want you dependent on me. I will be your safety net, but I am not going to hold your hand through this process. I strongly believe a self motivated student is the one who succeeds. A passionate student about their studies is also one that will succeed. There is no great joy then me seeing the student evolve from a deer in headlights look to a confident student that knows how to care and critically think. My experience is mainly with ADN/BSN students in a clinical or one on one setting.I am also a homeschool mom. For the past 6 years we've homeschooled my 3 children. My oldest is in 7th grade and thriving, my middle child is in 3rd grade and has grown leaps and bounds compared to our challenges in the early years, and my youngest kindergartner is oh so fun to see grasp reading and basic math.I am self motivated, loyal and punctual type of person. I take people for their word, and I expect others to do the same.I look forward to tutoring and mentoring you through this journey!

Along with my CPA, I have a BBA in Accounting and an MBA in General Business, both obtained from Texas A and M University - Commerce. With more than 20 years of experience in accounting working for multi-billion dollar companies, I've gained exposure to the many facets of accounting. As such, I enjoy teaching others the things I have learned.My philosophy around education and learning is simple. I believe every situation, even the unpleasant ones, is an opportunity to learn something new. Learning gives you the platform to go beyond what you ever thought you could. Therefore, I take my responsibility to help others on their academic journey very seriously.Toward that end, actively listening, being flexible in my approach to meeting each student's needs, and being patient with those that learn differently are all part of my repertoire.In education, there is no one size fits all and understanding that allows me to approach tutoring in a way that one size fits many.

I had 19 separate assignments and did everything from being an Aide to a 3 Star General to being a Space Shuttle Flight Controller in NASA/Mission Control. I graduated from the University of Florida, the Air Force Institute of Technology, the Air Command and Staff College, and the Naval War College. I have taught a variety of subjects (math, leadership, customer service, national security studies, emergency management, and more) at a number of different universities. I truly enjoy helping students (young and old) gain an understanding of the subjects, which I teach. I am always available to my students (past and current) to provide advice and assistance.I have been certified by Varsity Tutors in a wide variety of subjects. I want to note that I have a son with severe ADHD; have worked with the IEP Program for 12 years; and understand the Americans with Disabilities Act.
