Session Summaries by Physiology Tutors

Physiology Tutoring review by John in Park Ridge, IL
In this lesson we worked on understanding how changing velocity relates to acceleration. We discussed it in the context of a magnitude and vector. We worked through situations where the velocity and acceleration were in the same direction as well as where they are in opposite directions. The student is very motivated and remained focused the entire lesson. We were able to get her caught up in physics, and we moved on to discuss a confusion she had with solving systems of equations. We worked on solving systems of equations with 3 variables as well as systems of inequalities. I feel by the end, she was able to understand that velocity and acceleration did not have to be in the same direction which was one of her initial issues. We also were able to understand that the inequality needs to flip when multiplying or dividing by a negative number.

In this session the student and I mainly focused on doing questions regarding the chapters we discussed last week. We mainly covered infectious diseases and their management. Topics discussed were meningitis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and infective endocarditis. She did much better at answer the questions I used to quiz last time. She will study the next chapter covering antifungals and antivirals on her own, and we will review it next week.

In this session the student and I went over polyatomic Ions and how use them to determine a molecular formula. The student struggled with concepts more than others. Sometimes it was difficult for her to understand how a charge could change based on the element it was paired with. I believe that with some more practice the student will fully come to understand the material.

Physiology Tutoring review by David in Park Ridge, IL
In this session we covered Forces and Newton's Laws. Throughout the session I asked the student several conceptual questions, some of them being quite tricky, and he demonstrated impressive understanding of the material. I attempted to incorporate as many real life situations, even one about his favorite football team, in my explanations and questions to help him stay focused and interested. At the end of our session he attempted a quiz that was recommenced by his teacher, and I am happy to say that he answered all the questions correctly. I did ask him to finish the chapter quiz at the end of the book before his test.

Physiology Tutoring review by Jack in Park Ridge, IL
In this session we went over a little of finding the average molar mass of a species, but mostly went over acid base titration. The student seemed to be on top of his studies in chemistry and only needed a little guidance to solve the problems. Most of his problems seem to be in slight misunderstandings on a subject which once corrected he was doing fine.

Physiology Tutoring review by Tim in Park Ridge, IL
In this session we went over complex number addition, multiplication, and division. The student has a better understanding of converting complex numbers from rectangular to polar coordinates. We will continue working on complex numbers to improve his confidence next week.
