I have my Master's Degree from Adelphi University in Elementary/Special Education. I worked for the New York City Department of Education for 14 years as a special education teacher in a K-5 school in a collaborative setting, a self-contained setting and a resource room setting. I retired in July of 2020 and want to continue helping students succeed in the classroom as an online tutor by giving them the confidence and skills that they need to succeed. I enjoy teaching reading including phonics and reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and writing. I am a firm proponent of using technology as a tool to assist in reading and writing when necessary to ensure a students success in completing their assignments. In addition, I am also trained to use Fundations and Just Words which are a part of the Wilson Reading Program.

I am a recent graduate of Colgate University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English literature with minors in philosophy and writing/rhetoric. As an undergraduate, I worked at my college's Writing and Speaking Center as a peer consultant and took education classes for which I observed K-12 classrooms. Since graduation, I have earned a TEFL certification which I used at the beginning of this year to teach English in Germany. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about reading, writing, and ESL. In my experience helping college students with writing for any discipline (whether it was a creative short story, lab report, or history thesis), I have received positive feedback and managed to help clients enjoy the writing process while making noticeable improvements in their work. I strongly believe that approaching education with an organized yet caring and positive mindset is essential in helping students make tangible improvements, and is something I prioritize as a tutor.

It is obvious that a tutor who makes a student feel seen, listened to, valued, and respected on a daily basis has the ability to re-engage a discouraged and unmotivated student. These caring tutors are in an excellent position to assist students in developing the abilities required to successfully traverse their chosen path. I believe I did well in my prior course. I got along well with my classmates and loved working with them. At the same time, I had to prioritize my job and ensure that I finished what I needed to do. So I'd guess they'd describe me as disciplined, but yet nice and supportive. In Iran, I received my bachelor's and master's degrees from Guillan and Tehran Universities.I worked as a researcher at Oregon State University and Michigan State University for two years. Tehran University, Abourihan College, Central LaboratoryIn the lab workshop, the topic is health, safety, and the environment (HSE).My teaching philosophy is to foster supervised exploration in the classroom. I feel that learning is most successful when it is both relevant and realistic. Tutors, in my opinion, do more than simply teach youngsters how to read and do math. Students also eat together, go on field trips, and join school-sponsored clubs and sports teams. These are some "non-academic" activities that I usually do when educating students.

I've worked with students teaching and tutoring in multiple capacities in the past and enjoy it immensely. I have tutored elementary school students with ADD in English and Math, high school students in Pre-Calculus, and college students on the brink of failure in Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, Biology, Calculus and many other subjects. While in medical school, I have tutored other students on the higher level subjects of medical school including Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, and Biostatistics.I like to let the student guide my teaching style. In my experience, each student needs individualized tutoring. Personally, I am a visual learner, but I know that not everyone learns that way, so I accommodate to each student's needs. My first student with ADD showed me the range of needs each student can have. Other students have different needs, and I like to push my students to their full potential.Communication is key to success in the tutor-student relationship, and I work hard to make sure that we both understand the commitment and the goals that we are working towards. Each session should have a goal that we go over in the beginning of the session and agree on and if time permits, at the end, go over that goal and see what we want to review for next session.While I try to push my students, I also am very lighthearted and like to have fun during the actual session. The more enjoyable the session, the more information will be retained and understood.
