I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Southern California. I am majoring in Health and Human Sciences and minoring in Spanish, and am also on the pre-medical track. Growing up, I had difficulty in school understanding concepts in science, which originally dissuaded me from pursuing career in science. However, when I eventually found the right tutors, everything began to make sense to me and I realized how much I enjoyed learning when I could understand the material. It was empowering and I felt proud and confident in myself when the concepts started clicking. Because of my experiences, I decided to start tutoring to help others experience that feeling of finally understanding a tough concept. While I tutor a variety of different subjects, I've always been most passionate about concepts concering the NREMT, English, Spanish, and basic level mathematics. For the last four years, I've been tutoring a wide range of students, from elementary school kids to college students, and I absolutely love watching their level of understanding grow as they discover new concepts. How can we increase the class interaction of students in the class, especially for undergraduate courses? This is the question I have been asking myself a lot since many years ago. I reached to a method that can enhance the class interaction and involve them more in the class, and more importantly decrease their stress and encourage them more for learning. Taking a random quiz (extra credit exam) in the class of the material being taught in the same session is the method, worked very well for me. I used this method not only for mathematics courses but also as a lab instructor and the courses I taught as an instructor of record. It encourages students to take a look on the board and always listen to the materials to get an extra credit for their final score.The third factor is communication. Although class interaction and well-organized materials can be helpful for a better communication to transfer the knowledge and materials to students, a teacher needs to have effective communication skills to make more comfortable atmosphere for students to ask their questions without any hesitation even outside of the class which requires having proper office hours and also being generous in making time for students who are behind from the class.As I have been encouraged by my professors, who have taught me various useful skills in teaching, I do believe my great passion for teaching, several years of experience in teaching and industry; brilliant and high ranked academic background and good communication skills make me a successful lecturer.

It is about looking for patterns, planning solutions, and solving problems. This requiring more than just knowing a bunch of facts. You have to critically think about the problem, the solution, and the path that you must take to get the answer. There are usually many different paths to get the answer, and that is one of the most confusing parts for most students.My 13 years experience as a high school mathematics instructor and five experience as a college level instructor have given me insight into how to help each student achieve their goals and lessen the confusion. There are multiple ways to approach real life problems and that is what I believe most mathematics courses attempt to teach us. It is important to understand some basic facts about mathematics, but it equally as important to have a solid foundation in problem solving. My teaching approach is to foster an understanding of problem solving techniques while ensuring that the basic skills are rooted in a solid foundation.

In my experience with students I found that we are most successful through open discussion. This provides the opportunity for me to see where assistance is needed.
