History Tutoring review by Carolyn in Salt Lake City, UT
We continued to prepare for the student's first AP government test by following along with several study guides, answering the questions contained there, and then discussing the reasons behind the appropriate answers. He displays a very good grasp of the main topics involved.

History Tutoring review by Lindsey in Salt Lake City, UT
The student had old quizzes where she was struggling to connect the vocabulary on the pages to her everyday life. I discussed the concepts, trying to provide contemporary examples as appropriate. I also encouraged her to write rich description paragraphs in addition to making traditional flashcards for all vocabulary words.

First, the student and I went over how he felt his tests went last week. In Spanish class, he said that he had a hard time with the artists, but he did well on the vocab. He thought that the strategies we went over were very useful. On his AP Gov test, he got an A. Then we started to review AP Gov for his test on Tuesday. He and I went over the Articles and Amendments of the Constitution in great detail and I gave him modern-day examples of how the Constitution works. To help him study more, I suggested that he make flashcards with the most important parts of an article on one side and the article name on the other side. We then looked at certain situations and tried to figure out which part of the Constitution would have the answer to the situation. Next we spent a little bit of time reading his Spanish short story together and checking his comprehension. We will continue working on the story together next week.

History Tutoring review by Brandon in Salt Lake City, UT
The student and I met today to discuss the antebellum period in U.S. history. We focused largely on the development of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party systems between 1787 and 1860. We concluded the session by taking a practice multiple choice quiz. We are still waiting to find out how she scored on her last test, but I have noticed an increased understanding and engagement in our sessions, so I think they are helping.

History Tutoring review by James Thomas Scott in Salt Lake City, UT
The student and I discussed his paper that is due tomorrow and went over some of the edits that I suggested. We went over his previous test and discussed how he can better focus many of his testing skills to keep from making small costly mistakes. He missed 10 questions, 4 of which were not answered and could have easily given him at least 2 more points towards his total. We discussed the questions he did answer and got wrong with the intent of understanding his thought process in answering. He is not allowed to change an answer during a test unless he is absolutely sure that it is correct. This should cut down on some small problems. We discussed the current chapter and a few of the key points that he should expect to see in the coming test. This should help him in preparing his study guide.

History Tutoring review by Sarah in Salt Lake City, UT
Today was all about the paper. We finalized the choice of artist and artwork, crafted an outline, and then spent the rest of the time compiling primary and secondary sources. We figured out some creative ways to approach the assignment and had a lot of fun thinking outside the box for this one. The student's going to write a first draft which I will review during our next session. We'll edit together, using Google docs, and be more than ready to meet the deadline.
