History Tutoring review by Sharon in Carmel, IN
The student and I started reviewing material for her upcoming US history final exam. We focused today's session on an in-depth review of early American settlement, since this is the material that she missed before transferring into the AP class. We will continue reviewing notes on the American colonies for our next session.

History Tutoring review by Susan in Carmel, IN
Tonight, we continued evaluating vocabulary in Chapter 7. We discussed states' rights and both historic and current issues that demonstrate this ongoing national conflict. The student did a great job extracting definitions from the text. We went on to start thinking about sectional differences in the mid-1800s. These will become important to understand as she moves into studying the Civil War.

We finished studying for Earth Sciences, and the student got the test completed. She has now gotten 2 out of 6 courses completed 2 weeks before the end of the semester. She has made an incredible 180 in terms of her work ethic in the past week, which is huge news for her. It looks like she will end the semester with mostly A's and 1 or 2 B's once all is said and done. In the evening, we went over Government, did another test, and finished up with English. She is in a really good position to end the semester strong.

History Tutoring review by Quinn in Carmel, IN
We had another great review session! We went over the rest of the "road to revolution" and took some generalized notes together based on the chapter text. It was another chance to work on selective reading skills. I encouraged the student to review and study throughout this week, using the teacher's practice quiz later on in the week as a self-assessment. Then, he'll be able to touch on more specific topics he missed based on those results. I also introduced him to "Hamilton," the musical! I'm a firm believer in engaging in multiple forms of content in order to fully understand a topic, and this is no exception. We analyzed the lyrics a bit, and he made some great connections between the song and the class content. I encouraged him to listen to the rest of the album at his leisure.

History Tutoring review by Ciera in Carmel, IN
We jumped right in on the student's assignments. We covered one or two examples from her worksheets and she was given resources to best help her finish her assignments outside of our sessions. The assignments were mainly from her English course. I assessed how she handled comprehension questions, one of her struggles when reading for History. We will review this in each session to build strength in this area. In college prep, I offered information about the ACT and SAT, two exams that she should be seriously thinking about in 11th grade. I was happy to hear that she is in an ACT prep course!

History Tutoring review by Daniel in Carmel, IN
Worked on the student's major paper that is due on Thursday. His tentative plan is to write about the New Deal. We found primary and secondary sources, and then wrote a draft of a thesis statement. He is going to talk to his TA about the exact requirements of the draft that is due Thursday. He is also going to check on how to get full credit for his participation grade that is worth 22.5% of his overall grade. I offered to proofread his draft if he wants to email it to me.
