Tutoring review by Kaitlyn in Olympia, WA
Today, we worked on reviewing for the final. We started by correcting the student's old tests, and then we worked through the review. We simplified rational expressions and multiplied with negative exponents. We went through the steps for solving long division problems. We found all possible zeros of a polynomial and then found all real zeros using synthetic division. We used the quadratic formula to find imaginary zeros. We also worked on word problems using the volume formula and then solving a quadratic equation. We found the possible number of positive, negative, and imaginary zeros. We solved absolute value inequalities. We then found the max and min of parabolas by finding the vertex. We simplified rational complex numbers and found the absolute value of a complex number. We also solved by completing the square and finding the discriminant.

Tutoring review by Laura in Olympia, WA
Today, the student and I focused on linear factorization, which was the most difficult topic from our last session. We viewed step by step a video that helped facilitate our discussion. We then did practice problems together using the same method. Once we went through the problems, she started to remember and then caught on immediately. We did one more practice problem thereafter and then completed our review session.

Tutoring review by Stacey in Olympia, WA
This session focused on going over the format of the SSAT Upper exam. We discussed strategies for managing time and how the exam is scored. We focused specifically on math and just evaluating where the student places. He did well overall but had difficulty with geometry and word problems. I advised him to practice for at least 30 minutes per day from his workbook until our next session. We will pick up with math next session and also introduce verbal into next session.
