I am a graduate of the University of Michigan. I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a focus on developmental psychology. Since graduation, I have worked in Disaster Services with the Red Cross in Long Island. My role combined emergency management, social work, as well as a capacity for empathizing with other people. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, including various sciences and math, I am most passionate about chemistry. Having taken various chemistry courses throughout my education, I have learned tips and tricks along the way to help any kind of student succeed. I am a firm believer that education involves a two-way approach with the educator involving the student as much as possible. Examining the small processes and components in this world has been an intriguing habit of mine since I was in middle school. This passion made me fall in love with biochemistry in high school. Studying human metabolic pathways, including chemical reactions and cell communication, perfectly fulfilled my passion for understanding how smaller and simple processes work in conjugation with each other to create an intricate and fully functional larger organism.Now, I am a Biochemistry major at Tufts University, and I have aspirations to attend medical school after my undergraduate studies. This environment at Tufts helped develop my passion in the sciences and made me a more well-rounded person. I enjoy serving as a mentor, whether it includes tutoring or simply giving advice. My tutoring style focuses on identifying where the thought process becomes cloudy when a student looks at a problem or standardized test. I target this thought process and ask questions to guide the student to think about a better way to approach the problem. This way, the student is able to come up with the answer rather than have me tell them how to solve it properly. I mentored 5th and 6th graders when I was finishing up middle school and served as a mentor for freshmen in high school. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Science-Computing--the University's equivalent of the pre-med major, but with additional credits reserved for a few Computer Science electives. While there, tutoring was one of the main activities I was involved in, and I found it deeply fulfilling when I'd see a certain idea suddenly click for my tutees.My tutoring expertise is definitely in STEM, especially Math and Chemistry. I'm constantly amazed by how connected even the most disparate of STEM concepts can be, like the gears of a well-oiled machine: when learning new material, I always find myself revisiting old ideas in some new light and find unexpected relationships between the two.I'm a strong visual learner, and this is reflected in my style of tutoring. I think that being able to picture something clearly instantly makes it significantly less abstract, and is particularly helpful when trying to dissect the inner workings of some multi-step process. That said, this isn't the only way I approach things, and there's enough flexibility with the sciences that I'd feel comfortable approaching things from some other angle, if it'd be more fruitful.Beyond academics, I love playing the piano, learning computer programming, and video games, especially the main Mario titles (SMB3, 3D Land, Galaxy, Odyssey, etc.): of the ones I've played, I'm proud to say that I've completed all of them 100%.
