Marine Biology Tutoring FAQ
Marine biology classes can be fascinating when you understand the material you are learning. They offer a great opportunity to learn about the oceans and all the life forms in them, including both plant and animal life. Additionally, with environmental concerns growing larger than ever and increasingly in the public eye, marine biology courses can help you more deeply understand the environmental topics you read about in the newspapers and online, such as oil spills, overfishing, and oceanic pollution, and truly understand how they affect the oceans and ocean life.
However, marine biology classes can be challenging for many students. Marine biology classes cover everything from small-scale, microscopic topics (e.g. the chemical makeup of seawater) to large-scale issues (e.g. the effect of human activity on marine biodiversity) and everything in between. If you are feeling apprehensive about your upcoming marine biology course or struggling to keep up in the class you are currently taking, a marine biology tutor can help you change your confusion into understanding and confidence. Varsity Tutors can connect you with marine biology tutors who have extensive subject knowledge and great teaching skills. The right tutor can help you finally begin to understand the topics you are struggling to learn in your classes.
A marine biology tutor can help you further understand marine ecosystems, marine organisms, waves and tides, coral reefs, intertidal communities, and any other topics you are struggling to understand.
Your tutoring sessions will be tailored to your needs from the moment you meet your tutor. He or she will first assess your learning style, then they will determine your current level of marine biology knowledge and locate areas of strength and weakness. They will also take your personality and personal interests into account when forming a plan to help you. Next, your tutor will design a customized learning plan for your tutoring sessions. If you are a visual learner, then your tutor can help you learn with sketches and drawings. If you learn best with interactive activities, then your tutor and you can play interactive games and even use models of the ocean and marine life to help you learn.
When you work with a tutor experienced in teaching marine biology, he or she may have a variety of learning activities on hand ready to use during your lessons. Your class textbook can also be used as a great study aid in your lessons to make sure you are learning exactly what you need to for your specific class. Then, once you are caught up to where you need to be, your tutor can help work ahead with you to get a head start on later lessons you will face in class.
If you are currently enrolled in a marine biology class and struggling, then your tutor can help you work quickly to get caught up in your class. If you are falling behind, then it is important to get caught up as quickly as possible. He or she can work with you to prepare for the next important test you are facing and later, for your final exam.
No matter how busy you feel your current schedule is, you can find time to work in important marine biology tutoring sessions. Instead of asking you to take time out of your busy schedule to travel to inconvenient locations at times that overlap with other commitments, your tutor can come to you! You can arrange for sessions to take place where and when it best suits your particular schedule - tutors can meet you in person or tutor you face-to-face online. Don't let marine biology become a hassle for you when experienced tutors are eager to help you succeed! Call Varsity Tutors today to learn more about the one-on-one marine biology tutoring options available where you live.

Recent Marine Biology Tutoring Session Notes
The student thinks he did well on his test. We reviewed 2 chapters from the first semester to prepare him for his final at the end of the school year. The final is comprehensive.
We continued going over biotechnologies today. We started off by reviewing microarrays and DNA recombination, which the student seemed to understand a little bit better than last session. We then started covering how biotechnology is used in forensics. We went over single nucleotide polymorphisms, short tandem repeats and restriction fragment length polymorphisms. She struggled initially with these concepts, but understood much better when I made her start saying the full name of these, instead of using the abbreviates (i.e. STRs, RFLPs, and SNPs). She also understood how to apply these different studies to forensics. I made sure to correlate that these concepts are dependent on the use of restrictions enzymes, which we went over in the previous session. I believe that helped in bringing these together for her. Overall, she did not struggle with anything significantly, and she is doing a good job mastering this material.
The student and I spent the first hour working on Geometry questions, and he has a strong understanding of the material. For the second hour, we went over biology concepts for his assessment test, and he has a strong understanding of that as well. He received a 94 on his most recent math exam.
The student and I began studying for his evolution test this week. We reviewed terminology, history and practical implications. We also practiced taking notes and made a plan to be efficient learners in class. He did a great job!!
The student completed 2 worksheets on ecology, photosynthesis, and cellular respiration. He got a 98 on our last worksheet we worked on. After completing the worksheets, we did a general review over mitosis, meiosis, genetics, protein synthesis, and macromolecules.
We covered lecture 8 and 9 from his class. We discussed photosynthesis, PS1 and PS11, Calvin Cycle, C4 plants, CAM plants, and stomata function. Left the student with summary review and practice questions.
