I believe art and design should be a flexible and rewarding experience. Each student has different passions and skills and one size does not fit all. I feel when the techniques and methodology of creating art is acquired, many people can be artists.

I have 8 years in special education and 4 years as a certified teacher. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and 44 master's hours toward an MEd in special education. Although tutoring per se is new for me, I have extensive experience tailoring lessons to individual children. I can help with all subjects in grades 1-6 and some specialty areas such as astronomy, history, social studies, and art. I love to teach and seeing the spark of understanding within any subject. My philosophy of teaching is that I truly believe that ALL children can learn and I never stop trying to find what works for your child. I am a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a degree in Illustration/ Animation. After receiving my degree, I started my face and Bodypainting company while focusing on my children. Once they were old enough and no longer homeschooling, I began teaching art for afterschool and summer programs. I enjoyed working with children and sought other ways to reach children. I began tutoring math as an Apollo Math Fellow for HISD to help improve the standardized test scores. I later earned my teaching certificate and began teaching in the classroom. I believe all students can learn, and whether I am tutoring in art or middle school math, I will do my best to help students grow and learn.

I am a professional writer, who has strong writing and editing skills to help you in whatever way you need. I have always loved reading and writing. This love led me to earn an English Writing & Rhetoric degree from St. Edward's University. I also have a master's degree in journalism from Syracuse University. I have taken classes in grammar, punctuation, and essay writing. I believe these classes have given me the tools to help improve both your reading and writing skills. I also have written numerous college and grad school entrance essays over the years. I would feel comfortable assisting you with your admission essays into college. Through tutoring and teaching, I have helped students improve their writing skills and feel confident in helping you do the same.

I graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice/Forensic Science. I have been tutoring since 2006. My tutoring experience includes students from grade levels kindergarten through freshman college. The subjects I have tutored include reading comprehension, basic math and algebra, chemistry, and physics. I also have been hired as a study coach which involves teaching study skills, time management, and organization. My favorite subjects to tutor are the hard sciences-- chemistry and physics. My professor in college made chemistry extremely interesting, so I found the subject easy to learn. However, I am passionate about every student I take on, regardless of the subject. I consider it is my personal responsibility to make sure the students achieve their main goals. If necessary, I take the initiative to contact my student's teacher(s) in order to have a better understanding of their situation. Basically, my teaching style is to tailor my lesson plans according to the student's learning style (audio, visual, kinetic). For example, for children with special needs, I believe the best way to reach them is by staying flexible and allowing the student some leeway when he/she is experiencing a problem related to their disability. Some of my personal hobbies include reading, volunteering, riding horses, being outdoors, and spending time with family.

In addition, I have graduated Northwestern University with a Master's of Science in Reproductive Science and Medicine. I have experience working as a teaching assistant in college, as well as a private tutor for for several years now. The biological sciences and human development and physiology are some of the subjects I am most passionate about learning, studying, and teaching. I also greatly enjoy Psychology, English, and other science classes as well. I am bilingual, speaking English and Russian, which has aided me in helping many students learn Spanish, as I can understand the process of learning a second language. I have experience working with students of all ages, from kindergarten though college. I used to teach figure skating to kids (both in group and one-on-one lessons) which has really helped me learn to work with kids of different ages, and how to approach different learning styles l. I think the most important part of being a tutor is being able to adapt to the different learning needs of each individual student.
