Kate
Certified Tutor
I graduated May 2014 from Washington University in St. Louis with a BA in Drama. I am now training as a Teaching Apprentice at the Seattle Children's Theatre. I tutor mainly humanities courses, including essay writing and editing, SAT and other test prep, psychology, social sciences, public speaking, literature, English, and theater courses. I graduated from high school with an International Baccalaureate diploma and completed my Extended Essay in the topic of Drama, so I tutor those courses as well!
My teaching philosophy is one of dialogue - I believe that learning is a journey, and I want to help my students find their way to the joy of discovery that comes with confidence in their knowledge and their acquisition of knowledge.
When not tutoring, I love all things theatrical - I am particularly drawn to improvisation. I also ride horses, and am an active volunteer at various animal rights organizations. I am learning to knit, and I am a dog person!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe teaching should be a dialogue between those in the room, with a focus on listening and trust. I hope my students see me as a collaborator, a source of support and encouragement. As a teacher, I believe that my job is to empower my students to find their voice - and to believe that whatever voice they find is good enough. I will push my students to find the balance between a pride and ownership of their own voice, and a constant push to learn more and expand their horizons.
