Hello, I'm Elise, and I've recently earned my B.S. in Marine Biology. I am thrilled to be continuing down my journey as an educator! My goal is to guide individuals to find their unique learning styles, and transition from intricate concepts to a personalized understanding. I am a life long learner and passionate educator. I have a Music Education degree from McGill University in Montreal (yes, it is definitely colder in Canada!). My primary instruments are the trumpet and piano, however I have taken classes on every instrument. I incorporate music theory and aural skills into all music instruction. I am particularly passionate about Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and bring that to the forefront of all of my teaching. During my 5 years at McGill University I took many broad range education courses in addition to the music classes. I am also passionate about the French language, as I lived in Quebec for 5 years. I thoroughly enjoy mathematics and do math problems for fun! I have a passion for writing, including short stories, poetry, and research papers putting my english education to use. I produce music professionally and hope to someday perform as a touring DJ, while also providing a space for students to learn about music production online. I'm in the process of developing an e-learning academy for music producers that will provide quality, accessible, and affordable education for all future popstars and producers.

As an enthusiastic educator with a Bachelor's in Science from McMaster University, majoring in Biology, I am deeply passionate about teaching both mathematics and biology, particularly anatomy and physiology. Currently enrolled in the Doctor of Optometry program at the University of Waterloo, with aspirations to become an optometrist, I bring a unique perspective to my teaching, intertwining my academic pursuits with my commitment to nurturing young minds. I am dedicated to fostering an engaging classroom environment where students are inspired to explore the intricacies of numbers and the wonders of life sciences. I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia. I loved physics in high school and continue that in my degree I also am strong in Calculus as I have taken all the calculus courses for my degree. When it comes to teaching, I believe in connecting with students and finding what works best for them. Outside of academics, you'll find me climbing rocks, building computers, and tinkering with electronics. I love traveling tooI'm always up for an adventure. In the past, I've played rugby, and Ultimate Frisbee, and used to practice karate and robotics.

What makes me super excited to interact with students is their level of curiosity (I love questions!) and also making engaging content that makes super hard concepts really easy to follow and remember. Most importantly, I am always available beyond class hours to solve questions, help with your doubts, and provide extra tutoring, especially during exams (we know how important that is right?) I was a very involved student on and off campus and completed both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in 4 years, so I learned excellent time management and study practices. I'm originally from the Chicago suburbs but travel a lot for work and have lived all over the world, and love being able to communicate in the native language of places I travel. I speak both French and Nepali at an advanced level! Most of my previous tutoring experience comes from my time serving in the Peace Corps, where I worked with students of all ages and supported their learning in and outside the classroom on a variety of subjects. My tutoring style is very personalized to the student I am working with; I love to start by identifying the student's broader goals and how excelling at the subject at hand will help them achieve their goals, then breaking down the steps to mastery of the subject into bite-size achievements.
