My background includes an A.S. in Mortuary Science from Briarwood College in Connecticut, a B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of South Florida (Tampa, Florida), a master's in Criminal Forensics with a concentration in Medico-Legal Death Investigation from Florida Gulf Coast University (Fort Myers, Florida), and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Adult Education from the University of South Florida (Tampa, Florida). In addition to these degrees, I have also earned a graduate certificate in Evaluation and another one in Post-Crisis Leadership from the University of South Florida. As a Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer, I have worked as an HR Manager and Marketing Director at a funeral home for nearly 13 years. I am currently a professor in Funeral Service Education and much of my research has been in Mortuary Science. I bring to you both experience from the funeral home, as well as academia. I am passionate about anything related to the funeral profession: pre-need, at-need, and aftercare. My teaching philosophy is one that encompasses every aspect of the adult learner and learning style; I incorporate lecture, PowerPoint, and activities to maximize information retention. My goal for every student is to not only understand the material, but also to be able to apply it to the real world. Outside of my profession, I enjoy meditation, Words With Friends, PureBarre, as well as learning about and visiting cemeteries. I am extremely passionate and committed to helping students achieve their goals, specifically passing the National Board Exam (NBE).

I've had a rewarding and fulfilling career in diagnostic medical imaging for almost 20 years. I began as a Radiologic Technologist, then continued my education to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.In that role I was able to provide a great service and quality patient care in over 50 hospitals throughout the US. For this I will always be grateful. Patient care and student interactions brought me the most joy! My love and dedication to medical imaging is why I'm so excited and motivated to help future sonographers get credentialed and meet their career goals!My desire to teach also comes from my upbringing, where my father stressed the importance of education at an early age.My experience as a clinical instructor allows me to be compassionate and understanding. I understand the stresses that come along with being a credentialed sonographer, I aspire to alleviate that stress.

I am a graduate of Wesleyan University. I received my dual Bachelor of Arts in English and U.S History. I then pursued a master's degree in education (Curriculum and Instruction). Since then, I have traveled extensively, creating genuine relationships with people from all over the world. These experiences have heavily influenced my approach to life-long learning and the use of differentiation strategies for learners from all walks of life. Comprehensive literacy for all, is my true passion. Whether it has been in a classroom filled with elementary/middle school students or helping students of all ages prepare for Standardized Tests, my professional and volunteer work illustrates the lengths to which I have gone to make this dream a reality for many learners. It has been my honor to impart the value of literacy to all of my students. In my leisure time, you can be sure to find me with a cup of warm tea in hand, glued to a good book, singing karaoke, trying out new recipes or laughing and traveling with family and friends.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in December 2021, and completed my teaching licensure requirements there, as well, in both Elementary Education (K6) and Special Education (K12) in April 2022. I recently completed my student teaching in a 4th grade classroom in North Carolina. I have a passion for nurturing minds and helping students grow so that they can reach for their own dreams. I get particularly excited when I can work with students in developing their executive functioning skills such as organization and how to support a limited working memory. Teaching is my true passion. Before I became a teacher I was a private tutor in Wilmington, NC. I was also a tutor for UNCW athletics.
