I'm referring to math, of course, but I didn't always like the subject. Until about age 16, I thought of math as a boring, mind-numbing process of blindly memorizing formulas and then forgetting them after the test, but a series of wonderful teachers showed me the truth. I had thought that everythin...

Hello! I recently graduated this past May from Stetson University down in DeLand, FL with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Nonprofit Administration, along with a minor in Music. I grew up in Winter Springs, FL, and graduated from Winter Springs High School as the Valedictorian of my class in 2011. I have been tutoring math since my sophomore year of high school, and during my time at Stetson University, I worked as a student tutor for the Mathematics Department for three years, tutoring calculus, probability, statistics, and finite mathematics. I also tutored independently, tutoring middle school and high school students in Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. I love numbers, and want you to as well!Beyond my background in math, I have several other interests as well. I have been a musician since the sixth grade when I first started playing the tuba. I have a passion for volunteering and nonprofit organizations, and have spent much time with one nonprofit in particular, Habitat for Humanity, both in the office setting and on build sites as well. I enjoy biking and running, as well as spending time in the mountains. My friends would describe me as friendly and goofy, as I never give up the opportunity to reference random Youtube videos in every day conversations, and revel in making others laugh. I love tutoring, and enjoy helping students accomplish their goals.I am now attending Duke University to pursue a Master of Public Policy, a track studying the quantitative analysis behind policy decisions. I will focus on social policy and international development.

I am a Certified Public Accountant with experience working in the corporate world. After graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in accountancy, I went on to work at KPMG in the corporate tax department. Through that position, I learned the tax compliance process for both federal and state returns.Eventually, I decided to broaden my accounting experience outside of tax and went on to work at Hyatt Hotels in the corporate office. I was responsible for journal entries, account reconciliations, and the monthly close process.Currently, I am studying computer programming as I feel it is an invaluable skill set. Given my background, I am very comfortable tutoring in accounting, math, and economics. I received a 30 on my ACT Math portion, with a 29 on the overall exam.I feel that my ability to assess a student's strength and weaknesses helps me devise an appropriate plan to achieve academic goals. I look forward to fielding any questions about my credentials!

I taught high school level math classes for fourteen years plus an additional two years as a long term sub. I have taught college level math since 2008. I have much experience tutoring students both 1 on 1 and in groups, both at the high school level and the college level, and both during school time and on my own time. Students often ask to take my class again as they enjoy the way I teach and say they understand my teaching better than most teachers. I enjoy doing math and helping others to enjoy it as well.

Hello,I'm a recent graduate of the California Institute of Technology in Economics and Computer Science. I was also accepted at Harvard, Princeton, MIT, and Stanford. I have a broad range of interests spanning science, math, engineering, social science, the humanities, the arts, and athletics (I also played on the Caltech basketball team). My background allows me to tutor general college prep, especially the SAT, ACT and the GRE. I love to teach analytical thinking, ranging from advanced Math and Physics to strategies for understanding literature and developing arguments.I've tutored & received tutoring my entire life. My dad started drilling me on multiplication tables at 4 and 2 years later, when my oldest sister came of age, I began working with her. 3 siblings came after her who I worked with every day to improve their mathematical & verbal reasoning, giving them assignments out of workbooks our parents got us, correcting & reviewing their answers. I still help my youngest sibling with her Calculus homework today. My first compensated tutoring gig came the summer before my junior year when I taught local high school & community college students chemistry & physics from my home. Since then I've worked constantly as a tutor, working with a company in various locations throughout the Southland. I specialize in SAT math, having led workshops & boot camps which saw some students improve their score 200 points. In college, I sharpened my tutoring skills against the world's best whetstones. I do not just mean Caltech professors, though they deserve their props. The Institute fosters a collaborative environment where students thrive through teaching and learning from others. You really cannot get by in the school without these skills. Thus, my educational experience has exposed me to many of the effective ways people learn and teach. When I tutor people, no matter what the subject, I keep my utmost focus on patience and encouragement. Even if I find the subject easy, I can harken back to long nights trying to understand complex topics at Caltech which my tutors found easy, and gain inspiration from their patience and encouragement. These experiences fostered in me a love of learning and passing my knowledge onto others.I hope you feel inclined to take advantage of my willingness, no, intense desire to work with you. I plan to remain local indefinitely as I pursue other ongoing ventures.Thank you,Brian

I have been tutoring all levels of math and science for the past 14 years. I am driven by a desire to help people succeed because I believe that almost everything in this world comes down to how we were taught. It took me years to learn to swim. I got the stroke patterns down early but it wasn't until someone told me to exhale all the way through not just into the water but as my face is leaving the water that I really got it. The same applies to learning in school: one key idea or concept can make all the difference. My teaching style is easy going. I don't get flustered with students. We all were slow at learning something.

I earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina in 2013. I double majored in Chemistry and Mathematics on top of completing a Pre-Med track that included biology and physics courses. For the past year I've worked in a research lab studying childhood leukemia, and I plan on attending medical school in the next year. I specialize in tutoring a broad range of subjects including chemistry, biology, and physics, as well as math subjects like algebra and calculus. I also tutor for standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, AP tests, and the MCAT. I sincerely believe that while some of the concepts presented in these subjects and tests seem initially very difficult, they become much less intimidating if you have the confidence and perspective to look at the problems from the right angle. They don't have to be so challenging! I like to connect on students' levels and help them to find that confidence. In my free time I enjoy playing guitar and collecting music, reading, and spending time outdoors.

I am a Junior Applied Physicist and Military Physical Science / CBRN Officer. I also teach General Physics and some other basic physics courses such as Light and Color. I earned my B.S. in Physical Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2011 and am nearly complete in earning a M.S. in Applied Physics at Towson University. More importantly, learning is always a "two-way street" and my best experiences came from those who took the time to establish practicality or every day relevance with the material being studied. My personal experience in building my capability and confidence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields became easier as my learning style was recognized and supported. Thus, I feel building from your strengths and learning styles is extremely beneficial in overcoming obstacles. I enjoy teaching because everyone brings something forward in such environments. The "eureka" moment that strikes once we understand something is very rewarding. There are multiple methods to solving many problems. Finding your strength and nurturing it is a foundation of success.I initially struggled understanding mathematical and physical concepts until I was able to visualize them; seeing the connection in geometry, graphs, or other visual methods along with its application in life. This is why I enjoy using geometry and trigonometry/trig analysis to work through common applied mathematics, engineering principles, and chemistry. I also use it to break down calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations. My current work is in semiconductor physics and material science. I still enjoy running, running, food, devising my own experiments, and playing thought provoking video games. Using the language of mathematics to study our physical world has an unlimited potential that I enjoy sharing with others. Whether it be of interest or a skill that must be developed in order to move onto something different, I enjoy helping others succeed.
