A summa cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University with degrees in biochemistry and architecture, I am a current graduate student at Columbia University in the City of New York. Tutoring since high school, I have worked with students ages 11-22 (from middle school through college) in subjects as varied as math, organizational skills, PRAXIS prep, and of course, biochemistry! Additionally, I am well-versed in GRE, SAT, ACT, and AP exam coaching. Outside of the classroom, I have and continue to work in biochemical laboratories, play viola in an orchestra, and cross-country hike. I then switched gears into a public middle school in Haddonfield, New Jersey. I continued along the special education track at this school, but found there was an incredible void in my life. Being young and wanting to travel the world, I decide to pursue teaching opportunities and other adventures in Maui, Hawaii where I taught 4th grade for several years. I have always been thirsty for traveling and experiencing new cultures, and Hawaii was what I needed. I then found myself extremely homesick after having my son, and returned to New Jersey where I currently educate 5th graders in an inclusion classroom.

As a freshman computer science student in the Honors College at Rutgers University, I am passionate about teaching both math and computer science. Since early on in high school, I have been engaged in various tutoring and volunteering opportunities. I am most passionate about mathematics and English courses, and also being able to help students perform better in standardized tests. Prior to attending college, I graduated from the West Windsor Plainsboro School District, so I understand how stressful and competitive academics can be in and around this area. I tutor several subjects though I am strongest in the humanities particularly in preparation for the AP European/American History exams as well as the AP American Government/Comparative Politics exams. I also offer ACT/SAT Writing, ACT/SAT Reading, SAT Verbal and ACT English tutoring. My approach to tutoring is centered on the belief that nothing is particularly difficult if you just break it down into small parts. For example, things like Advanced Placement tests and standardized tests when viewed as a whole can seem like daunting tasks which require lots of higher order reading, writing, and thinking skills. However, when they are approached question by question and broken down into series of basic tasks, they become much more manageable. In my spare time I enjoy reading, particularly nonfiction books on the areas I tutor in such as history and politics.

I have tutored physics and calculus in college and have worked at the National Museum of Mathematics where I helped explain the mathematical concepts behind the exhibits. I love math and science so much because there are many different ways of approaching problems in those subjects. I also enjoy them because the problem solving skills you learn in math and science are useful for many other fields.In addition to my interest in the sciences I enjoy theater, improv comedy, philosophy and films. I have taken many improv classes and I found that it has helped me when working with people to try to explain ideas to them.
