A summa cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University with degrees in biochemistry and architecture, I am a current graduate student at Columbia University in the City of New York. Tutoring since high school, I have worked with students ages 11-22 (from middle school through college) in subjects as varied as math, organizational skills, PRAXIS prep, and of course, biochemistry! Additionally, I am well-versed in GRE, SAT, ACT, and AP exam coaching. Outside of the classroom, I have and continue to work in biochemical laboratories, play viola in an orchestra, and cross-country hike. As a student of pedagogy, I adapt to each student's unique needs to deliver hands-on approaches that use real world examples and provide mastery in comprehension. I believe that knowledge is power, but only in the application and advancement of knowledge can one find success.

In 2007, I graduated from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia with a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. I found helping children and making a difference in the world became a passion throughout high school, and I wanted to continue this idea into adult hood. Immediately upon graduation, I landed my first teaching job in Plymouth Meeting, PA at a school for children with emotional exceptionalities. I then switched gears into a public middle school in Haddonfield, New Jersey. I continued along the special education track at this school, but found there was an incredible void in my life. Being young and wanting to travel the world, I decide to pursue teaching opportunities and other adventures in Maui, Hawaii where I taught 4th grade for several years. I have always been thirsty for traveling and experiencing new cultures, and Hawaii was what I needed. I then found myself extremely homesick after having my son, and returned to New Jersey where I currently educate 5th graders in an inclusion classroom.

Education truly is the social justice issue of our time; no other endeavor is so far-reaching in its ability to precipitate change in all other areas of society. It is this principal that drives me as an educator; as a teacher and tutor I am entrusted with the privilege of sharing the gift of culture, conversation and critical-thinking.I have been a primary school dual language teacher in New York City for the past 4 years. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics from Georgetown University and a Master's Degree in Education from Hunter College, which I received through the New York City Teaching Fellows program. My teaching and tutoring practices are based in student-led, performance-based learning that allows students to work towards their goals in at their own pace and according to their own personal learning needs. I am a firm believer in making content relevant and relatable so as to facilitate the integration of new concepts and ideas.I am trained and certified to teach all of the content areas for grades 1-6 (English Language Arts, STEM, Social Studies, etc.), and am also qualified to teach Spanish Language up through the college level. As your tutor, I will do everything I can to help you reach your goals!

AP French Language and Culture Tutor • +27 Subjects
I graduated from Rutgers University in 2013 with a B.A. in French and English, receiving High Honors for both majors. I've been tutoring students since my first semester there, starting with literature and composition and eventually tutoring students from all levels of the Rutgers writing program, as well as those students who needed help in my areas of expertise. For two years, I taught English in France as part of the TAPIF program by the French Ministry of National Education, and tutored other students privately; I am fluent in French and am adept in common ESOL teaching techniques, both in the classroom and in a less formal setting. I particularly love tutoring Writing and Composition, Literature, History, and French - especially when an interdisciplinary approach helps the student approach information in new ways - since these fields are where my academic expertise and my interests align. I truly want to share my love of language, history, and literature with my students. I'm also passionate about every student's right to an effective education, so my goal as a tutor is to consider each student's individual style of learning and to teach them practical skills they can carry back to the classroom, the exam, and beyond. In my spare time, I play the violin and the ukulele, write a lot, and go to the sea whenever I can.

I am a recent graduate of American University in Washington DC. I received my BA in Political Science. Prior to attending college, I graduated from the West Windsor Plainsboro School District, so I understand how stressful and competitive academics can be in and around this area. I tutor several subjects though I am strongest in the humanities particularly in preparation for the AP European/American History exams as well as the AP American Government/Comparative Politics exams. I also offer ACT/SAT Writing, ACT/SAT Reading, SAT Verbal and ACT English tutoring. My approach to tutoring is centered on the belief that nothing is particularly difficult if you just break it down into small parts. For example, things like Advanced Placement tests and standardized tests when viewed as a whole can seem like daunting tasks which require lots of higher order reading, writing, and thinking skills. However, when they are approached question by question and broken down into series of basic tasks, they become much more manageable. In my spare time I enjoy reading, particularly nonfiction books on the areas I tutor in such as history and politics.

I am a recent graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology where I studied Applied Physics. I have love for math and science and enjoy sharing my interests with others. I have tutored physics and calculus in college and have worked at the National Museum of Mathematics where I helped explain the mathematical concepts behind the exhibits. I love math and science so much because there are many different ways of approaching problems in those subjects. I also enjoy them because the problem solving skills you learn in math and science are useful for many other fields. In addition to my interest in the sciences I enjoy theater, improv comedy, philosophy and films. I have taken many improv classes and I found that it has helped me when working with people to try to explain ideas to them.
