Since I was a little girl, history has been in my blood, although being a historian was never my plan (I wanted to be an actress). Growing up I was fascinated with Abraham Lincoln and the untimely passing of such a prominent public figure. I loved every trip to the Chicago Historical Society (known today as the Chicago History Museum) as a child. I enjoyed reading about the Puritans and the Native American culture. At this point I'm comfortable classifying myself as a historian although it took me awhile to get to this point in my life. In 1999, I received my B.A. in History from Loyola University Chicago and in 2002, I received my M.A. in Public History from the same school. I then went on to earn my Ph.D. in American History from Northern Illinois University in 2011.I teach college history online full time and I have taught numerous survey and upper-division American history classes at local "traditional" colleges and universities. When I teach, I don't necessarily focus on the facts of history, but on the larger transitions. I want students to understand how history has changed over time. I also try to convey to students that history can be fun to learn. In my personal life, I am the mother of two small children and I have been married for fifteen years. I workout regularly, but I also enjoy being a couch potato. I love being with my kids and husband. Oh and I love Doctor Who! I also enjoy spending time with my friends, debating current issues, history, and historiography.

I graduated from Swarthmore College in 2014 with a double major in political science and psychology. The following year, I worked at a startup in San Fransisco, and last year I moved to NYC to coordinate a federally sponsored neuroscience research project.I have an intense passion for learning, and I enjoy sharing that passion through a wide variety of tutoring subjects. My expertise is primarily in the social sciences, but I'm very good at test taking and US history, and I I have also been involved with theater, public speaking, and creative writing for a large part of my life, and I enjoy sharing the knowledge that I've gained from these experiences as well; in fact, one of my favorite things to help people with is finding the best ways to communicate ideas both structurally and semantically in writing and speech, from book reports to college essays. When I'm not tutoring or conducting research, I like to go rock climbing, perform improv comedy, and write creatively. I also volunteer as a summer camp director with PALS Programs, a nonprofit that supports the Down Syndrome community.

Hi there! My name is Emily and I just graduated from Western Governors University with my Postbaccalaureate in Elementary Education and have my teaching license in Elementary Education from Utah and Illinois. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Loyola University Chicago and took some Education Policy courses there as well. In between my degrees I worked as a self contained special education teaching assistant in a middle school and assisted students from 6th-8th grade. Before going back to receive my teaching license and as part of my program, I student taught math, ELA, and social studies in a 6th grade classroom during the beginning of 2021 as part of my degree. While I tutor and assist a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math and passing the knowledge that I've gained through my educational experience down to my students. I love to balance work and fun throughout my time with my students by folding math games into my sessions. I strongly believe that education effects and is effected by many factors of life and work to help address these factors in order to provide students with quality education. In my spare time, I enjoy doing yoga, working out, spending time with my friends, and enjoying a good movie/watching TV.

Hi there! My name is Ren. I graduated from NYU cum laude two years ago, and currently I'm working full time in a finance firm in midtown. I've been tutoring since I was in high school. My strong suits are math and Chinese (a little stereotypical, I know. But I can't change what I'm good at!).Now a little about my hobbies... I don't know anything about music, in fact I took an elementary piano lesson in my last semester of university, and received a B- for it! Turned out to be the worst grade in my student history, and robbed me of my Magna Cum Laude by 0.003 points! Still bitter? Yes.I love travelling and I've studied abroad two times. So far I've been to around 10 countries. I speak English, Chinese, and Italian.
