Adult Health and Wellness Tutor • +4 Subjects
I graduated from Xavier University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training. In 1998, I earned my Master of Physical Therapy from Allegheny University of the Health Sciences. After working as a physical therapist for several years, I continued practicing and earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2014. I have been a clinical instructor to numerous physical therapy students. In addition, I taught Therapeutic Exercise and Therapeutic Modalities & Pharmacology as an adjunct professor for athletic training students. Because I had experience in opening two physical therapy clinics for a hospital employer and a private practice employer, I decided to utilize that experience to open my own independent physical therapy practice in 2015. After earning my NASM Personal Training Certification and pursuing specializations in Fitness Nutrition and Corrective Exercise, I closed my physical therapy practice in 2021 to focus on my current wellness business. I have passed the NATA-BOC, NATA, NASM-CPT, NASM-FNS, and NASM-CES exams on the first attempt. I know how to prepare, study, and pass professional exams! I currently assist with coaching a USATF XC & Track team; however, I miss teaching academically. I am excited to join the Varsity Tutor platform to teach and mentor students who are interested in athletic training, physical therapy, personal training, and nutrition. I am a gym-rat and an endurance junkie! I workout almost 2 hour every day because I love how exercise increases my energy. I believe my experience across the medical-fitness industry will provide students with great insight into both academic and real-world learning.

I have a passion for teaching and sharing my expertise with others. My background for the last 20 years has been in Human Resources. I went to undergraduate school at Florida State University with a degree in multinational business operations. I have two graduate degrees - an MBA and MAC degree. I got my start in Human Resources while perusing my MBA in Buffalo, New York. I just recently finished my Masters in Accounting from UNC Chapel Hill. I've taught Human Resources for over seven years at both a professional and university level where I prep students to pass the SHRM-CP/SCP as well as help professionals prep for and understand Human Resources it relates to law firms. My personal teaching philosophy is simple - relate what we learn with past experience. This allows the subjects to come alive and be tangible concepts, rather than abstract learning notes. Together, we develop a goal and then measure our progress against that goal. When not tutoring, out family travels the Southeast for my daughters' tennis tournaments. I'm a dog lover, so when we are allowed to being them, our Aussiedoodle pups come too!

I'm an attorney, Ph.D. student, and aspiring law professor. I am working on my dissertation for my Ph.D. in Law at Yale, having previously earned my J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. I practiced for three years at a large law firm in Washington, D.C., primarily representing television stations.I also speak German, having learned it as a high school exchange student, majored in it in college, and having spent a summer working in a Berlin law office. As much as I love the law--and I really do!--I also love teaching. I recently spent a semester teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Law at a law school; that experience confirmed for me that teaching is what I was meant to do. I have had numerous other teaching and tutoring experiences, including working for my university's tutoring service as an undergraduate student and later working for my law school as a tutor.
