Education is my passion; I love being able to help students accomplish their goals.I am passionate about helping students because I know first hand how hard and stressful nursing school is! Throughout my time in nursing school and beyond, I've been able to guide other students, helping them gain a better understanding of the curriculum. I am able to simplify the information, giving students a better approach and confidence when answering questions.I have many tips and tricks to get through the boards and nursing exams! My teaching philosophy includes PATIENCE, to bring all information to a level my student understands, make learning interesting, fun even. Nursing school is hard ! The NCLEX seems like a beast but it can be defeated one question at a time!!

My passion in helping students stems from the fact that I was once one myself, and not a very good one. College was a door to a new opportunity of learning. As soon as I became a college freshman, I saw a different world opening before my eyes. Today, I work with many diverse students in different scenarios: Pre-K to college level; foreign students needing to learn English for careers as well as scholastically; and SAT and ACT preparation for students seeking to get into college. The one thing that's common in these various scenarios is my passion to help students that are apprehensive to learn because they don't know what to do, and teach them how to break down a situation and discover for themselves how to study, learn, and find out to derive the answer for themselves. My Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Syracuse University and my Master's certificate in TEFL/TESOL from Learning Tutoring were not easy to obtain, However, that goal was worth it as they prepare me each day to to teach, interesting, diverse students, and assist them in achieving their educational goals. In addition to proven teaching experience, I have 30+ years' work experience in three different industries--banking, advertising, and hospitality. Since I am teach for a variety of accredited institutions composed of students of many ages and from diverse cultures and backgrounds, my subjects include, but are not limited to: English (verbal, written and phonics), literature, essay writing, SAT and ACT English and math, history, science, filmmaking (award winning filmmaker), acting (union actor--SAG, AEA), 2D animation, drawing, painting, and Adobe Creative Suite. My favorite subject to teach is English--phonics, verbal, reading, and literature. My teaching style is hands-on. I just don't stand or sit there and lecture. Lectures are boring. As my resume and other documents state, I have 30 years experience as a union actor in good standing. Much of this acting experience has been in improvisation and role playing. I bring a lot of role playing activities into my class, especially when I am teaching foreign adults who need to know English for their jobs/or if the relocated to the U.S. My lessons are based on the students themselves. They're tailored to student individual needs. We do a student scenario, say applying for a graduate degree scholarship. If they are employed in an English speaking environment, we might do something where they are interviewing for a promotion. My philosophy is all about the 'individual student's needs,' whether I am teaching a class of six students or one-on-one. Outside of the class, I am interested in kayaking, filmmaking, and writing scripts and plays.

I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Master's of Science degree in Occupational Therapy with a specialization in education. I also have taken extra college classes in Mathematics and Science to further my education. I worked for a few years on the clinical side of Occupational Therapy, and then my career path took a new direction. I got involved in a tutoring program for students at the K-12 level. I loved it immediately; I had found my true passion: working with and helping children. I started teaching students in various environments and to students of all levels.I have assisted teaching in a school, substitute taught for grades k-12 in all subject areas, tutored at a center for kids with special needs, tutored on-one-on in homes, taught lessons in an after-school program, and managed a team of tutors. I have tutored the subjects of Mathematics, Science, Reading, English, Writing, History, Spanish, and ACT/SAT Preparation. I have also been in a director role for an after-school program for three years. My true passion is working with children and helping them to feel confident, excited about learning, and positive about their futures. I believe allowing students to interact through auditory, visual, and tactile systems gives them a deeper understanding of their environments and the material presented to them.In the past, I have been able to learn from my students, laugh with them, teach them and advise them. I have always worked hard to overcome obstacles presented to me in my life, and I would love the opportunity to help other students to have this perspective as well. In my free time, I like to teach yoga, practice Pilates, and dance. I love to read, snowboard, and walk/bike along the beach.

"You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference. You just have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." - Jane GoodallI want to make a positive, world changing difference! I believe teachers are given the opportunity to build on foundations laid by parents for a prosperous future, not only for individual children, but for our society as a whole. Although this is a huge responsibility for the adults, I believe that through the education of children, we are able to deliver children the opportunity to find a future which they enjoy. I believe in the reward of seeing children flourish and it is worth the effort and dedication required. I am a strong advocate for partnership with the parents/guardians of students I work with. While classroom/large group and small group settings are both important, I find particular value in the opportunity to meet 1:1 with students. Meeting a student where they are and helping them grow is very life-giving and rewarding to me!I have both my bachelor's and master's degrees in the field of education. I have over 10 years of classroom experience in the "brick and mortar" school. Since 2020, I have been teaching and tutoring on-line. I have my degrees in and have worked with students in K-12th grades, both regular education and special education, across a plethora of content areas.Let's connect! I'd love to meet you!
