I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Southern California. I am majoring in Health and Human Sciences and minoring in Spanish, and am also on the pre-medical track. Growing up, I had difficulty in school understanding concepts in science, which originally dissuaded me from pursuing career in science. However, when I eventually found the right tutors, everything began to make sense to me and I realized how much I enjoyed learning when I could understand the material. It was empowering and I felt proud and confident in myself when the concepts started clicking. Because of my experiences, I decided to start tutoring to help others experience that feeling of finally understanding a tough concept. While I tutor a variety of different subjects, I've always been most passionate about concepts concering the NREMT, English, Spanish, and basic level mathematics. For the last four years, I've been tutoring a wide range of students, from elementary school kids to college students, and I absolutely love watching their level of understanding grow as they discover new concepts. I know firsthand how difficult it can be to seek tutoring, and I try to be as approachable as possible while continuing to emphasize the power of learning and the confidence that accompanies it. I also firmly believe that learning should not only be educational, but fun as well!In my free time, I love watching movies, hiking, playing ping pong, creating the occasional Spotify playlist, and baking.

I encourage all my students to engage in fun, meaningful learning. I provide support with direct instruction and guiding questions and facilitate conceptual understanding, not just memorization. I am a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communication and Media Studies. Since graduation, I received my Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate and taught English to South Korean elementary school students for two years. While I tutor a range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, Writing, and Grammar. I personally love reading and writing, so I find it very rewarding helping others better their skills in these subjects. For my teaching philosophy and tutoring style, my students in Korea could tell you that I find a lot of joy in creating fun and engaging materials. I believe it is really important to meet students where they are and connect learning with things they already enjoy. In my spare time, I read a lot. If there are any books that interest you, I would love to hear about them. I also enjoy traveling and learning about new cultures.

There is no doubt that knowledge and expertise are the basis of every successful country which only can be guaranteed by emphasizing on high-quality teaching for next generations. I remember since the young age, I have been enjoying and feeling honored to share any new knowledge with other students which are the motivations of my teaching desire at the present time. 14 years of experience in teaching from being a private tutor, lab instructor to instructor of record in different universities not only helped me to increase my expertise and experience in teaching but also guided me to pursue my long term job in teaching. My research experience has helped me a lot to gain more knowledge that can be useful in teaching and design new applied courses. In my philosophy, a responsible teacher is a person who cares about all students progress in the class which it means some factors are indispensable. Well organized and structured materials can be considered as the first necessary item. Regardless of the topic and the level, of course, the method of introducing new materials to students is very important. Having a trend and connection during teaching is really significant. A well-prepared speech should contain not only theories but also examples to motivate students about the course. The second parameter is class interaction which is the key to learning for class based teaching. How can we increase the class interaction of students in the class, especially for undergraduate courses? This is the question I have been asking myself a lot since many years ago. I reached to a method that can enhance the class interaction and involve them more in the class, and more importantly decrease their stress and encourage them more for learning. Taking a random quiz (extra credit exam) in the class of the material being taught in the same session is the method, worked very well for me. I used this method not only for mathematics courses but also as a lab instructor and the courses I taught as an instructor of record. It encourages students to take a look on the board and always listen to the materials to get an extra credit for their final score. The third factor is communication. Although class interaction and well-organized materials can be helpful for a better communication to transfer the knowledge and materials to students, a teacher needs to have effective communication skills to make more comfortable atmosphere for students to ask their questions without any hesitation even outside of the class which requires having proper office hours and also being generous in making time for students who are behind from the class. As I have been encouraged by my professors, who have taught me various useful skills in teaching, I do believe my great passion for teaching, several years of experience in teaching and industry; brilliant and high ranked academic background and good communication skills make me a successful lecturer.

Hello! Let me begin by sharing what I believe to be my guiding principle as a teacher. William Butler Yeats once stated that "education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." Mathematics education is not about dumping a bunch of facts, formulas, and theorems into a bucket that you carry around with you. It is about looking for patterns, planning solutions, and solving problems. This requiring more than just knowing a bunch of facts. You have to critically think about the problem, the solution, and the path that you must take to get the answer. There are usually many different paths to get the answer, and that is one of the most confusing parts for most students. My 13 years experience as a high school mathematics instructor and five experience as a college level instructor have given me insight into how to help each student achieve their goals and lessen the confusion. There are multiple ways to approach real life problems and that is what I believe most mathematics courses attempt to teach us. It is important to understand some basic facts about mathematics, but it equally as important to have a solid foundation in problem solving. My teaching approach is to foster an understanding of problem solving techniques while ensuring that the basic skills are rooted in a solid foundation.

"Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it." This quote by College Football Hall of Famer Lou Holtz details the aspects to accomplishing a task. My personal belief is that these 3 components also apply to studying, and the mastery of every one is the key to academic success.I strive to achieve these three factors in my own life as well as helping others realize their potential through mastering ability, motivation, and attitude.

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who specialize in preparing for a wide range of professional certifications, including IT certifications (CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft), project management (PMP, CAPM), finance and accounting (CPA, CFA), healthcare credentials (NCLEX, pharmacy technician), and many others. Tutors can work with you on exam-specific content, test-taking strategies, and practice problems tailored to your certification's format and requirements.
One-on-one instruction allows tutors to identify exactly where you're struggling and adapt their teaching to fill those gaps, rather than having you spend time on concepts you already understand. Personalized tutoring also provides accountability, structured study plans, and the ability to ask questions immediately when you're confused. Research on learning shows that individualized instruction significantly accelerates progress compared to self-study alone.
Preparation timelines vary widely depending on your starting knowledge, the specific certification, and how frequently you meet with your tutor. Some certifications require 2-3 months of focused study, while others may take 6+ months. Your tutor can assess your baseline knowledge and create a realistic timeline with specific milestones, helping you stay on track to meet your certification deadline.
Yes. Tutors work with students at all knowledge levels, from those brand-new to a field to those with substantial experience. If you're making a career transition, your tutor can start with foundational concepts and progressively build your knowledge toward certification-level competency. This scaffolded approach helps you develop both the conceptual understanding and practical skills needed to succeed on your exam and in your new role.
Effective strategies include breaking complex topics into smaller, manageable pieces; using practice exams repeatedly to identify weak areas; and spacing out your study sessions over time rather than cramming. A tutor helps by explaining difficult technical concepts in ways that stick, creating focused practice plans, and providing feedback on your progress. This combination of targeted instruction and strategic practice leads to stronger retention and better exam performance.
Your tutor can help you assess readiness through practice exams, diagnostic reviews, and honest conversations about your confidence level. Most certification exams have published study guides and pass rates you can reference. A good benchmark is consistently scoring at or above the passing threshold on full-length practice tests under exam conditions. Your tutor can also help you decide if you need more preparation time or if you're ready to schedule your exam.
Varsity Tutors works with tutors across many industries and certification types. If you're preparing for a specialized certification, reach out with details about the exam and field—tutors often have expertise in niche areas, and we may be able to connect you with someone who's a great fit. Even if a direct specialist isn't available, tutors skilled in related subjects can often help you master the material and exam strategies.
