I became interested in tutoring during college. I started tutoring biology, chemistry and writing. By my senior year, I was running the tutoring center and writing lab. Following undergraduate, I became a teacher's aid and substitute teacher in the public school system. A year later I attended graduate school, where I received my PhD in neuroscience. I graduated from University of Connecticut in May 2015. I majored in biology on the pre-med track and minored in human rights. I have been teaching the sciences, humanities, and organizational study skills for eight years as a private tutor. At UConn, I was an administrative assistant at the Homer Babbidge Library and organized payroll for upwards for 300 students. I also volunteered at the Willimantic AIDS clinic and was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. I was awarded the greek life academic achievement award during my time at UConn. I began tutoring while I was in high school as a volunteer for the Bridgeport School Volunteer Association. At 15, my first student was a 4th grade girl who was about to repeat the fourth grade for the third time. Through my time with her, she was able to progress to the 7th grade and is now in high school. In the past three years, I have become more specialized in tutoring for science standard exams and frequently tutor in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, SAT II Biology, and SAT II Chemistry. However, I also have students that I tutor in all subjects ranging from all ages ranging from middle school to college. I feel my students succeed when they are motivated, organized, and engaged in the material.I support my students by creating study schedules, finding new and creative ways to explain materials or supplement their current understanding, and providing one-on-one support personalized to the students' needs. I find joy in de-stressing students by creating a workable, organized plan to address their concerns. I have worked with a range of students with different needs. From students with learning and developmental disabilities to honors and AP-track students, I am able to personalize my tutoring sessions to cater to any student. I am currently applying to medical school for the 2017 cycle. In my free time, I love to volunteer as an EMT, hike with my dogs, and see live music.

I have eight years of experience teaching and tutoring Science, Math, and English to students ranging from middle school to college.I graduated with my PhD in Molecular Biology/Microbiology in 2020 from Wayne State University. During my graduate studies I taught undergraduate Introductory Biology Labs. I also served as a lead lecturer for Microbiology for one semester.Prior to graduate school, I received my BSc in Biology from University of Michigan, Dearborn in 2014. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored peers primarily in Biology and English courses. I also taught swim lessons to children of all ages for 5 years.I have worked with several ESL students, especially in English, Reading, and Writing. I also worked extensively with a peer who was visually impaired, which allowed me to come up with creative teaching strategies, such as building a cardboard model of a cell instead of looking at a cell through a microscope. Additionally, I have a 4-year old son with autism, have a deep understanding of his learning struggles, and have learned a wide variety of strategies to help him learn at his full potential.Thank you for taking the time to read about by background; I am excited to begin working with you!

I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Concentration in Neurobiology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. During my final years as an undergraduate, I worked as a supplemental instructor in a Biology course for Non-Bio Majors. After graduation, I attended Texas A&M College of Dentistry, where I tutored high schoolers and undergraduates who were preparing for the Reading Comprehension section of the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). I was honored with Tutor of the Year award by the students and faculty members of that cohort. I am passionate about learning and sharing the developing notions of what it means to be human. This is what led me to teach Anatomy & Physiology to high schoolers, where I was awarded New Teacher of the Year at the school. My philosophy is to learn through teaching, reflection and meditation. Outside of the classroom I teach mindful movement as a certified personal trainer and yoga instructor. As a tutor, I am motivated to meet the student at their current skill level and facilitate in their pursuit of excellence.

I am a graduate of the University of Miami where I received a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology/Immunology and Public Health, where I was on the pre-med track. Since completing my bachelors degree, I have recently completed my Masters in Physiology from Georgetown University. Aside from my academics, I am incredibly passionate about serving underprivileged communities and working with health equity. At the University of Miami, I created a health education program for K-12 students and worked avidly in leadership and service roles in the community. From my experience teaching health education in schools and local youth centers, I have learned to make learning adaptable to the needs of different students and age ranges. Often times, many students struggle, especially in the new online learning environment, due to lack of hands on learning and they need to visualize the concepts in terms that they encounter in their daily lives. Having most recently worked with younger children, I am able to adapt to particularly English, Mathematics, and Science needs of a wide age group. Additionally, I have taken the ACT, SAT, PSAT, was a National Merit Commended Scholar and graduated in the top 10% of my high school class, as well as have taken the MCAT. Through my additional science and public health coursework, I have gained expertise in writing in a variety of settings and completed my public health thesis. Additionally, one of my greatest skills is in helping students with professional development work, particularly in medical school and graduate school essays. I enjoy working with students to improve their writing by asking questions, improving grammar, and helping them chart out their ideas to really get to the next level with their essays! I look forward to working with students to help them in their academic and professional careers!
