I am a graduate of Concordia University-Portland, and a student at Regent University. I earned a master's degree in special education in 2016 and am pursuing a PhD in Special Education currently. Since earning my degree, I have spent the last 2 years working with children with Autism on academic and life skills. I also took the opportunity to earn a certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I work in a variety of subjects as a tutor but my passion is working with students with disabilities and learning challenges. I especially enjoy working on reading and grammar building blocks such as phonics and sentence construction. I am passionate about the benefits of education and making those benefits available to all students regardless of challenges and I try to make learning as engaging and entertaining as possible while still reaching goals. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children in nature, photography, watching sports, and crafts like sewing and knitting.

I was what is referred to as a nontraditional student. I struggled in high school due to undiagnosed ADD. Upon receiving a diagnosis later at age 25 I returned to school. I received a BSCh and MS in Analytical Chemistry from The University of Memphis, a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Vanderbilt University, and served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Indiana University before moving to the Denver area in 2011.I currently homeschool my 13 year-old son, and have tutored throughout my graduate academic career. I have taught undergraduate chemistry labs at levels from introductory courses for non-science backgrounds through advanced mixed graduate/undergraduate classes for chemistry majors. I understand that different people learn in different ways, and that the best teachers adapt their methods to the needs of their students.In addition to my passion for science, I have a love for music. Both of my children belong to the Denver Young Artist Orchestra and have performed musical theater with the Phamaly theater group.

My name is Zach Polonsky, and I am a junior at Colorado School of Mines, studying Engineering Physics. As a physics major, I know the importance of understanding the fundamentals of a subject before trying to focus on specifics, especially in math and science. I try to have a very flexible teaching style, as I know not everybody learns in the same way, and I will always come prepared to teach a subject in multiple ways depending on the student's way of learning. I am outgoing, encouraging and patient, and I will always push my students to achieve to the best of their abilities.

I am quite passionate about education, since I feel it is the key to any sort of satisfying life. As the saying goes, knowledge is power, and knowledge can give you comfort and help guide you through a world that is often frustrating, convoluted, and dissatisfying. I have channeled this passion into teaching astronomy, which I majored in. I also taught some history and religion topics as head of a secular club in college.

I really like to help people learn topics that I love myself! I am very passionate about math and science and I get very excited when I see what some people call the click a student gets a problem or concept. I am currently a Freshman at University of Washington planning on majoring in Chemistry. I've always been strong in math in science and have been helping people with these subjects since I've been in those classes. This year I am taking Calculus and Honors Chemistry. Many of the students that I have helped in the past tell me that they have gone on to learn the material much better. When I work with students I like to help them figure out how to do a problem themselves. My style is to not just work through problems for them but instead help them figure out how they can do these problems with all of the knowledge they all ready have but used in a slightly different way. I look forward to helping students succeed in their classes and develop the love for math and science that I have!

While the mechanics of math problems is important, I think solving real-world applications of mathematics is the true test of how well a concept is understood, and is much more enjoyable to learn.
