I recently graduated with my bachelors in chemical engineering and have almost 2 years of experience as a process engineer. Although I'm an engineer by trade, my true passion is teaching! In college I was a TA for Pre Calculus and Integral Calculus. I was also a college of engineering ambassador in college and taught engineering based lesson plans virtually and in person to K-12 schools across Oregon. I've also been volunteer tutoring Algebra 2, Pre Calculus, and SAT Math prep to high school juniors since last year through a non profit that works with first generation and underserved high school students who plan to go to a 4 year university.
During this time I was also volunteer tutoring English to non-native English speakers. I was also a nanny to a 5 year old for a year and would frequently teach them concepts they didn't get the first time around with their teacher. I have the most expertise in teaching math, specifically anything from Algebra 1 to Calculus 1, and have the most fun teaching any type of math up to calculus! PreCalc and Calculus were a struggle for me in high school, I wouldn't understand concepts during class and wouldn't go out of my way to get extra help from the teacher or friends. This has driven me to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing difficulties, something I had trouble with in high school. I believe in engaging students actively in their own learning by encouraging them to articulate their initial thought processes and work collaboratively to solve problems. I believe in engaging students actively in their own learning by encouraging them to articulate their initial thought processes and work collaboratively to solve problems. This approach not only helps identify misconceptions early but also builds confidence and critical thinking skills.
I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel safe to take intellectual risks, ask questions, and learn from mistakes. Ultimately, I see teaching as a partnership. My role is to guide, challenge, and support students in developing both subject mastery and a lifelong love of learning.
I promise that in my tutoring session you will be met with patience, understanding, and support.
In my free time I enjoy running (currently training for half marathon!), playing guitar and piano (not well...), baking, reading (current read: The Glass Castle), and learning Arabic.
